Federal Government Inaugurates States’ Selection Committees For Post Covid19 Jobs’ and their contacts

Find in the photos the contacts of the Chairman, Vice Chairman and Secretary of each state of the Federation and the FCT below.

The jobs is an initiative of the Buhari Administration to assist Nigerians in mitigating against the pandemic for a three-month job between October-December, 2020 and will be paid directly by the CBN.

Each local government has been allotted 1,000 slots and qualifications are not needed.

The programme is being supervised by the Honourable Minister of State, Labour and Productivity, Hon Festus Keyamo, SAN.
Festus Keyamo on Monday, June 29th, 2020 inaugurated the special committees for the selection of applicants on the proposed federal government Special Public Works programme.
The post Covid19 poverty alleviation programme which was approved by President Muhammadu Buhari is aimed mainly at recruiting one thousand (1,000) itinerant, unskilled workers each in all the 774 Local Government Areas (LGAs) accumulating to total employments of 774,000 Nigerians across the nation.

In a virtual inauguration conference jointly addressed by Dr. Nasir Ladan Argungu in Abuja, the DG, National Directorate of Employment.
The Minister announced that “they have reached this point in the progressive march towards executing the programme after the painstaking work of an Inter-Ministerial Committee he inaugurated on Wednesday, 29th April, 2020. This Inter-Ministerial Committee drawn from eight (8) Ministries and headed by the Director General of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) made far-reaching recommendations on ways and means of executing this programme, one of which is the setting up of States’ Selection Committees to identify and recruit those to be engaged under the Programme. These Committees would also be saddled with the responsibility of identifying the public works to be executed in each of the LGAs in all the States. This would be in addition to projects already identified by several Federal Ministries, Agencies and Parastatals in different localities across the country.

Dr. Nasir Ladan Argungu in Abuja, said, “Having accepted the recommendations, we also ensured that the composition of the Committees is multi-sectoral and local enough to balance all the competing interests in different States. Your selection, therefore was a result of a painstaking process we carried out to ensure that we make the exercise as credible as possible.

The 1,000 persons you will recruit per LGA would be engaged by the Federal Government between October and December this year to carry out public works that are peculiar to each Local Government Area. They would be paid a total of N60,000 each (that is N20,000 per month). They would be engaged in roads rehabilitation and social housing construction, urban and rural sanitation, health extension and other critical services. Depending on how successful the programme is or how buoyant the Federal Government’s purse is, this programme may either be extended or repeated every year. There are also various suggestions on some exit strategies for this programme, one of which is to move these workers to some agricultural projects, but nothing is concrete yet.

You must therefore see this task as a serious, patriotic national assignment. This programme can rightly be described as one of President Buhari’s many star programmes for the lowly, weak and vulnerable people in our society. Hence you must treat it as such.

Because of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, we could not all gather in one place to do this inauguration, where we could have also physically handed over to you your letters of appointments. But all the formal letters of appointments will be in our various States’ offices of the NDE this week for everyone to collect.

You will also notice that it is only the Chairmen, Vice-Chairmen and Secretaries that joined us by virtual means today. All other members in the Committees would be contacted by the Secretaries as to the time and place for their inaugural meetings and how they will proceed with the assignments. However, I direct that all meetings should be done in the various State offices of the NDE or some other neutral venues in order to avoid undue influences on the Committees.

Permit me at this junction to say that we are already running out of time on the execution of this programme. This is because a lot still have to be done before the various works begin in October. After the selection of those to be engaged, they still have to be captured by some selected banks we are in talks with, their account opened, and their BVNs obtained. This is because Mr President has directed that everyone must be paid through their BVNs to eliminate fraud in the programme. With this measure, no single person can be paid twice.

As a result, I direct that all the States’ Selection Committees have just three weeks (3) to complete the selection process and return the names of those selected to us for further processing with the banks. We are hereby releasing immediately, all the names and phone numbers of every member of the various Committees in the entire country for easy access by Nigerians in their various localities to make cases for their inclusions. Members of the Committees, in turn, will also reach out to various sectors of their different States to recruit eligible Nigerians.  The final details of how these would be done will communicated to the Committees through their various Chairmen and Secretaries.
You are therefore enjoined to wait for those details from the Chairmen and Secretaries before proceeding. These would be ready in the next few days in the form of Guidelines for the Operation of the States’ Selection Committees.

My belief is that if the Committees adhere strictly to the Guidelines given to them, they are bound to achieve the targets set by Mr President to reach out to 774,000 Nigerians who are largely indigent and itinerant workers. Fortunately, you are saddled with this onerous task and I enjoin you to ensure it is a success. However, the Federal Government will not hesitate to remove and replace any member of the Committees that does not adhere strictly to the Guidelines given to the Committees or acts in such a way and manner as to undermine the purpose of this programme.

?It is for the above reasons and in the exercise of my powers under Section 16(1) of the NDE Act that I inaugurate you today.

Kidnappers kill three victims after collecting N7.5m ransom

Operatives of the Intelligence Response Team have arrested members of a kidnap syndicate, who allegedly killed three of their victims after collecting N7.5m ransom from their family members.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Frank Mba, disclosed this in Abuja on Monday while parading 26 suspects arrested for kidnapping, armed robbery, unlawful possession of firearms and other sundry offences.

According to Mba, the kidnap syndicate abducted one Dr Audu Benedict, his son and a friend of the family, who were on their way to Abuja.

While in captivity, the suspects were said to have contacted the families of their victims, who subsequently paid N7m to secure their release.

“Before the ransom was paid, the suspects forced Benedict to raise a cheque of N500,000, which was successfully cashed,” Mba stated.

He, however, regretted that the syndicate went ahead to kill their victims, notwithstanding the ransom.

He stated, “Among the suspects, we have a kidnap syndicate that specialises in terrorising people of the North-Central zone.

“A ransom of N7m was paid by the family of Dr Audu Benedict. While in captivity, the doctor also raised a cheque of N500,000, bringing the total to N7.5m.

“After collecting the ransom, the suspects went ahead to kill the doctor, his son and the family friend.”

He added that the gang also kidnapped one Veronica Aboyi, who is related to one of the suspects.

Two of the suspects, Gwar Henry and one Bello, admitted to the crime.

The police said six AK-47 rifles, three pump-action rifles and other weapons were recovered from the gang.

Meanwhile, the police said they rescued six children “stolen sometime last year.”

FG approves reopening of schools, lifts ban on interstate travels and domestic flights

The Federal Government has approved what it called “safe reopening” of schools nationwide in the next phase of the gradual easing of lockdown ordered to curtail further spread of COVID-19.

However, only graduating students will resume.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at the daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday.

He said the reopening of schools was meant to allow students in graduating classes to resume preparation for examinations.

He disclosed that the latest developments were contained in the task force’s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), earlier in the day.

Mustapha said, “I am pleased to inform you that Mr President has carefully considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTF and has accordingly approved that, with the exception of some modifications to be expatiated upon later, the Phase II of the eased lockdown be extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020, through Midnight of Monday, 27 July 2020.

“Specifically, however, the following measures shall either remain in place or come into effect:

“Maintaining the current phase of the national response, for another four weeks in line with modifications to be expatriated by the National Coordinator;
“Permission of movement across state borders only outside curfew hours with effect from 1st July 2020;

“Enforcement of laws around non-pharmaceutical interventions by States, in particular, the use of face masks in public places;

“Safe re-opening of schools to allow students in graduating classes resume in-person in preparation for examinations;

“Safe reopening of domestic aviation services as soon as practicable;

“Publication of revised guidelines around the three thematic areas of general movement, industry and labour; and community activities;

“Provision of technical support for states to mobilise additional resources for the response.”

The Federal Government has also approved the safe resumption of domestic flights in the country.

The ban placed on interstate travels has also been lifted with effect from July 1, provided such journeys are made outside curfew hours.

The Federal Government has said all primary schools and daycare centres across the Federation remained closed.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at the ongoing daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday

The National Assembly has convinced electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to halt the proposed increase in tariff

The National Assembly has convinced electricity distribution companies (DisCos) to halt the proposed increase in tariff for power consumers till the first quarter of 2021
In a statement, Ola Awoniyi, spokesman of Senate President Ahmad Lawan, said during a meeting on Monday, the leadership of the legislative chamber agreed with the DisCos to suspend the planned increase.
He said "Earlier today, I led the leadership of the National Assembly to a meeting with the Chief Executive of government electricity regulatory body and electricity Distribution Companies across the country, the outcome of which is the halt in the planned increase in electricity tariffs.

The planned in many issues electricity tariff which was cost-reflective take off from July 1st, 2020 has now been much-needed the first quarter of 2021 as a result of the intervention of the National Assembly leadership, while we meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue.

We were emphatic at the meeting that the timing of the planned hike was wrong even though we had not many issues with the need to introduce cost-reflective tariffs for the power sector to attract the much-needed investment.

The agreement is that there is not going to be an increase in the tariffs on July 1st. While we are in agreement here that there is no question on the justification of the increase but the time is simply not right and appropriate measures need to be put in place.

There is too much stress in the lives of Nigerians today and indeed across the world because of the challenges imposed by COVID-19 pandemic and even before then, we had issues that would always make it tough for our people to effectively pay the tariffs.

So between now and the first quarter of next year, our task will be to work together with the Discos to ensure that we put those blocks in place to support the eventual increase in tariffs.

The government has been doing a lot as part of the s obligations to provide some form of Intervention. I'm quite aware that for this year, probably starting from last year, over N600 billion was earmarked for this sector to improve".

The fact you need to understand on BVN and fraud

Right from the time BVN came into existence, we've been hearing anyone with your BVN number can cart all your money away and I've tried educating people and it's actually frustrating.
To reconfirm my position, I just got off the phone from a very dear friend who is a banker.

The worse that could happen when people have access to your BVN is to know your details (name, DOB, phone number, etc), listen, they can not transfer your money with it. The best they could do is to call you and ask you for your ATM details and if you fall for that, that's when your money would be gone. That scam is no longer a new tale. We should all know by now that no staff of your bank would call asking for debit card details.

BVN number is just for identification and a source for your information in the national database. Developed Nations have such database as well.

Forget about the broadcasts causing panic about BVN. If you are still not convinced, go to your bank and reconfirm.

I pity those saying my supposed Presidential ambition is dead – Tinubu

All Progressives Congress stalwart, Bola Tinubu, says he pities those saying his purported ambition to be President in 2023 is dead.

Tinubu said this in a statement on Saturday while reacting to the dissolution of the National Working Committee by the party’s National Executive Council.

He said, “To those who have been actively bleating how the President’s actions and the NEC meeting have ended my purported 2023 ambitions, I seek your pity.

“I am but a mere mortal who does not enjoy the length of foresight or political wisdom you profess to have. Already, you have assigned colourful epitaphs to the 2023 death of an alleged political ambition that is not yet even born.”

Tinubu, who did not deny or affirm whether he had a Presidential ambition, said there was no time for such due to the current Covid-19 pandemic.

He said he would rather busy himself with how to ensure the economic recovery of the country.

The former Lagos State governor stated, “During this period, I have not busied myself with politicking regarding 2023. I find that a bit distasteful and somewhat uncaring particularly when so many of our people have been unbalanced by the twin public health and economic crises we face.

“I have devoted these last few months to thinking of policies that may help the nation in the here and now. What I may or may not do 3 years hence seems too remote given present exigencies.”

He said he had toiled for the success of the APC just like any other individual and he would continue to make sacrifices to ensure that the party remains on the path of progress.

Tinubu added, “I have toiled for this party as much as any other person and perhaps more than most. Despite this investment or perhaps due to it, I have no problem with making personal sacrifices (and none of us should have such a problem) as long as the party remains true to its progressive, democratic creed. Politics is but a vehicle to arrive at governance.

“Good politics promotes good governance. Yet, politics is also an uncertain venture. No one gets all they want all the time. In even a tightly-woven family, differences and competing interests must be balanced and accommodated.”

Man arrested for defiling employer’s twin daughters in Lagos

Man arrested for defiling employer’s twin daughters
The Lagos State Police Command has announced the arrest of one Chinedu Obi, 26, for allegedly defiling his employer’s twin daughters.
A statement on Sunday by the spokesman, Bala Elkana, said Obi allegedly defiled his employer’s twin daughters.
Elkana noted that on June 16 at about 2:55 pm a woman in her mid-thirties (name withheld) reported the case at Aguda Police Station.
The complainant said Obi, her salesman, raped her 12-year-old daughters (names withheld) when she left them with him in her house.
“The suspect was arrested and he confessed to the commission of the crime”, the Police said.
Elkana quoted Obi as disclosing that he started having sexual intercourse with the girls in 2019.
Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, has ordered the transferred of the case to Gender Unit, State Headquarters, Ikeja.
CP Odumosu advised parents not to trust anyone with their kids, especially female children.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Police to continually apprehend sexual offenders and make them face the full weight of the law

APC IS BECOMING THE PARTY WE WERE INTENDED TO BE- Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

BECOMING THE PARTY WE WERE INTENDED TO BE
- Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu

I wish to begin my remarks by commending members of the National Working Committee. Under their collective stewardship, the party earned great and important victories, not least the vital second mandate handed to President Buhari. President Buhari’s victory, and the overall electoral success of APC speak highly of them.  Our task as a party is to build upon the progress thus made so that both nation and party may advance to their better future.

Yet, we must acknowledge that something important has gone off track. For some months we have experienced growing disagreement within the leadership of the party. This unfortunate competition had grown so intense as to impair the performance of the NWC, thus undermining the internal cohesion and discipline vital to success.

Some people have gone so far as to predict the total disintegration of our party. Most such dire predictions were from critics whose forecasts said more about their ill will than they revealed about our party’s objective condition. Predictions of the APC’s imminent demise are premature and mostly mean-spirited. However, an honest person must admit the party had entered a space where it had no good reason to be.

The trouble is not that we would forfeit our collective existence but whether we were in danger of losing our collective purpose. In some ways, this possibility is of greater concern. A political party that has lost sight of the reason for its existence becomes but the vehicle of blind and clashing ambitions. This is not what drove the APC’s creation.

Those who believe Nigeria can be forged into a better nation and deserves good governance must harken back to the establishment of our party. Those who were there and contributed the most to the party’s genesis embraced a common vision. Not only did we believe the venal, purblind PDP was leading the nation into a pit, we sincerely held a common vision of progressive good governance. This was the overriding reason for the APC.

Those most intimately involved in founding the party remain faithful to this benign, timely assignment. Sadly, many members have lost their balance. Their personal ambition apparently came to greatly outweigh the obvious national imperatives.

Even in the best of times, Nigeria is beset by myriad challenges. Poverty and economic inequality, insecurity, lack of infrastructure are longstanding obstacles that have blocked our access to national greatness for too long.

Through no fault of our own, we now live in a moment of heightened difficulty. We did not ask for COVID-19 but it has found us. We must deal with it and navigate its rude economic consequences. At the same time we must grapple with the violent insecurity caused by increasingly desperate terrorists and criminals. People need concrete help from us.  We must focus on building roads and creating jobs. For the average man, watching politicians wrestle for position is a poor substitute to seeing politicians working for the benefit of all.

Yet, such intramural fighting has come to occupy the attention of many high ranking party officials and members.

The National Working Committee, itself, became riven by unnecessary conflict. Those who disagreed with one another stopped trying to find common ground. Attempts were made to use the power of executive authority to bury each other. I must be blunt here. This is the behaviour of a fight club not the culture of a progressive political party.

Some members went against their chairman in a bid to forcefully oust him. In hindsight, his fence-mending attempts were perhaps too little too late. I believed and continue to believe that Comrade Oshiomhole tried his best. Mistakes were made and he must own them. Yet, we must remember also that he was an able and enthusiastic campaigner during the 2019 election. He is a man of considerable ability as are the rest of you who constituted the NWC.

It had been my hope that the disagreements could be resolved. After all, a political solution should not be beyond the ken of leaders of a major political party. But such resolution has failed to materialise. It was as if some unseen but strong force continued to stoke the embers. Instead of calling a prudent ceasefire, too many people sought more destructive weapons against one another.

Order, party discipline and mutual respect went out of the window. Members instituted all manner of court cases, most of them destructive, some of them frivolous, none of them necessary. In the process, a dense fog fell upon our party.

When this matter first came to a boil a few months ago, I issued a statement against this litigious tendency. President Buhari and former interim chairman Akande published strong words against this misuse of the courts as being contrary to the spirit of the party and the letter of its constitution. Each of us knew nothing good would come of such conduct. Instead of listening to this counsel, party members increased their trips to the courts. While busy providing ample livelihood for a gaggle of lawyers, these actions cast the good of the party to the wind.

After the fusillade of lawsuits and countersuits, two NWC members laid competing claims to the chairmanship. One legitimately elected at our national convention; the latter whose claim was based on the questionable suspension of the former.

With lawsuits so numerous one needed a spread sheet to keep track, President Buhari has reasonably decided that he has seen enough.

I do not lament his intervention or its outcome. I lament that the situation degenerated to the point where he felt compelled to intervene.

President Buhari is much more than a mere beneficiary of the party. He is one of its founding fathers. The APC does not exist in its current form without his singular contributions. That is not opinion; it is undisputed fact.

Given these antecedents, he cares about the condition of the party as any parent would care for its offspring. President Buhari has done what any parent in his position and with his authority would do. The more troubling consideration is that so many trusted people acted in such a way as to force the president to put aside the issues of statecraft in order to address these problems.

The President has spoken and his decision has been accepted. It is now beholden on all of us, as members of the APC, to recommit ourselves to the ideals and principles on which our party was founded. While we recognize that people have personal ambitions, those ambitions are secondary, not sacrosanct. Members must subordinate their ambitions to health and well-being of the party. Never should our party be defined by one person’s interests or even the amalgam of all members’ individual interests. A successful party must be greater than the sum of its parts.

In this vein, I appeal to all former members of the National Working Committee and all members of our party to sheathe their swords and look to the larger picture.

We have governorship elections around the corner in Edo and a primary and elections in Ondo. On these important events we must concentrate our immediate energies. In the longer run, we must restore the collegial nature to the party so that it should be in the practice of coming to support the President instead of him having to rescue the party from itself.

In Edo, we must rally round our candidate Pastor Osagie Ize Iyamu. In this, Comrade Oshiomhole has a crucial role to play. I congratulate him for his equanimity and loyalty to the party and our President in accepting the dissolution of the NWC. I encourage him, now, to return to Edo State to energise the campaign for the election of Pastor Ize-Iyamu.

In Ondo, we must set the procedures for primaries and conduct that exercise in a fair, transparent manner that shows the Nigerian people the party has left turmoil behind.

In addition to the daily operation of the party, the Caretaker Committee has the mandate to prepare for a mini national convention within six months. We must give the committee the support needed to fulfil this assignment in an impartial manner.

As I understand it, no one has been precluded from seeking any party office to which he is otherwise eligible. Former NWC members are free to seek re-election to the NWC. Provided they have the support of party members, they will have an opportunity to return to serve the party in a leadership capacity. This reflects our overriding desire to restore and maintain internal democracy not subvert it.

To those who have been actively bleating how the President’s actions and the NEC meeting have ended my purported 2023 ambitions, I seek your pity. I am but a mere mortal who does not enjoy the length of foresight or political wisdom you profess to have. Already, you have assigned colourful epitaphs to the 2023 death of an alleged political ambition that is not yet even born.

At this extenuating moment with COVID-19 and its economic fallout hounding us, I cannot see as far into the distance as you. I have made no decision regarding 2023 for the concerns of this hour are momentous enough.

During this period, I have not busied myself with politicking regarding 2023. I find that a bit distasteful and somewhat uncaring particularly when so many of our people have been unbalanced by the twin public health and economic crises we face. I have devoted these last few months to thinking of policies that may help the nation in the here and now. What I may or may not do 3 years hence seems too remote given present exigencies.

Those who seek to cast themselves as political Nostradamus’ are free to so engage their energies. I trust the discerning public will give the views of such eager seers the scant weight such divinations warrant.

Personally, I find greater merit trying to help in the present by offering policy ideas, both privately and publicly, where I think they might help. I will continue in this same mode for the immediate future. 2023 will answer its own questions in due time.

I have toiled for this party as much as any other person and perhaps more than most. Despite this investment or perhaps due to it, I have no problem with making personal sacrifices (and none of us should have such a problem) as long as the party remains true to its progressive, democratic creed. Politics is but a vehicle to arrive at governance. Good politics promotes good governance. Yet, politics is also an uncertain venture. No one gets all they want all the time. In even a tightly-woven family, differences and competing interests must be balanced and accommodated.

My fellow party members who now feel aggrieved by the NEC meeting I urge you to accept the sacrifice you have been asked to make so that the air can be cleared, the party can assume its proper role of helping this government lead the nation toward enlightened improvement, and the party itself can grow and firmly establish itself as the best, most democratic party in the land.

Makinde denied insinuations that it is responsible for the delay in burying Abiola Ajumobi

Seyi Makinde has denied in a press release by his Chief Press Secretary, that they are not in any way responsible for the delay of Ajimobi's burial.
The Press Release
Ajimobi's burial: This wicked lie must stop
Seyi Makinde has strongly denied insinuations that it is responsible for the delay in burying the immediate past governor of the state, Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday.
A statement was released by the Chief Press Secretary to Seyi Makinde, Mr Taiwo Adisa, indicated that the insinuations can be tag as a wicked lie.
The statement in the press release read: "In view of the intense enquiries from news media organisations regarding the perceived delay in burying the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, the Oyo State Government wishes to place on record that there is no truth in the rumour making the rounds that the burial is being delayed by the state government.
"The rumour, which is being deliberately spread to give the state government a bad name and to play undue politics with the dead, initially came by the way of social media gossip, which gained traction to attract the attention of traditional media outfits.
"Several media outfits reached out to the Media Office of the Governor of Oyo State to make enquiries on this barefaced lie on Saturday.
"Let it be stated clearly that the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, has played no role at all in causing any delay whatsoever regarding the burial of his immediate predecessor, Senator Ajimobi.
"The truth of the matter is that the family, through a proxy, approached the state government and sought approval to bury the late governor on a plot of land at Agodi GRA, which is currently under litigation.
"Incidentally, it was the same former Governor Ajimobi who instituted the legal action.
"Governor Seyi Makinde had no choice than to state the facts as they are to the emissaries and turn down the request.
"Governor Makinde, however, against the established land use rule in Oyo State, gave approval that the family can bury the late governor in his Oluyole Estate residence.
"It is to be noted that the rules guiding land use in Government Reservation Areas (GRA) forbid the burial of bodies in such locations as Oluyole Estate and Agodi GRA.
"Let us also put on record that whereas the family did not follow the laid down protocols in passing information on the sickness and eventual demise of Senator Ajimobi, Governor Makinde overlooked all that and directed the full cooperation of the government with the family on this matter.
"It can only amount to a wicked lie to insinuate that the incumbent government in Oyo State attempted to obstruct the burial of the immediate past governor."

Signed

Taiwo Adisa.

Exposed! How Ajimobi was Scammed N50m While Lying on Sick Bed

A Nigerian guy has scammed Senator Abiola Ajimobi of N50,000,000 while he was lying critically on the sickbed.

The last days' Senator Abiola Ajimobi, who died on Thursday at First Cardiology Hospital in Lagos following Coronavirus complications, were devoid of peace as he was defrauded of N50million right on his sickbed.

Recall that Ajimobi was rushed to the hospital weeks ago after his health deteriorated significantly and soon slipped into a deep coma he never recovered from until he passed away on Thursday.

The doctors were battling to save his life at the Lagos hospital during his illness, family members are desperate to keep him alive reached out to a some of Nigerians they knew abroad to help get the quantity of Remivir to be administered on him.

The drug was manufactured in Bangladesh, the antiviral drug was previously tested in humans with Ebola virus disease and has shown promise in treating severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) caused by Coronavirus, according to United States National Institutes of Health.

First, the task for the search for the drug was given to a Nigerian in Texas, United States, to see if he could help get it.

After days of contacting several trusted persons for the ‘project’, he gave up the search as the tight monitoring of the drug by the US government made it almost impossible for it to be moved out of hospitals.

The $50,000 paid was refunded after another search for the drug in a hospital in Los Angeles, California, did not yield.

The hospitals contacted had an only limited dose of the drugs, which is closely controlled by the US governments desperate to stop the rising number of deaths related to Coronavirus in the country.

The United States has 2.5 million Coronavirus cases and 126,785 reported deaths in the country.

After failing to get the drug in the US, members of Ajimobi circle turned attention to Bangladesh where it is being manufactured.

A Nigerian in Bangladesh guaranteed them of getting the needed dose of Remivir to administer on Ajumobi and help save his life.

Thereafter, a jet and N50m was sent to the Asian country for the purchase and delivery but unfortunately, the drugs procured by the Nigerian man was all fake.

He took a large sum of the money and left Ajumobi to battle for his life at the Lagos hospital where for at least one week he was on a life support machine before he finally died.

A close family member said “All our guys here in the United States couldn’t risk it because of the war act invoked by President Donald Trump that the drug should not get out of America.

“It is something I was involved in from the beginning. In fact, we gave $50,000 to one of our Nigerian guy who is a doctor in Los Angeles but he returned the money. He said the hospital had only 100 doses and everything was monitored on how it is used.

“But one Nigerian guy defrauded them after claiming he could get it in Bangladesh.

“They sent a flight and paid about N50m but the drug they got from him was fake,” one of those privies to the search for the drugs, he said.

It was gathered that the disappointment from that development further added to the pain of those close to the former governor, who passed away at the age of 70 on Thursday.

Schools must create isolation spaces and fully-equipped clinics before reopening – FG

The Federal Ministry of Education has directed schools to create isolation spaces and have fully-equipped clinics before the reopening of schools.
This was contained in the "Guidelines for schools and learning facilities reopening after COVID-19 pandemic closure", submitted to the National Assembly by the presidential task force on Tuesday, June 23.
According to the guidelines, each school is "expected to create temporary isolation spaces and fully-equipped clinics before reopening".
Schools are also expected to "establish a referral system, including protocols and procedures to take if learners, teachers, administrators, and other education personnel become unwell while in schools.'
The Ministry further stated in the document that any state wishing to reopen schools should "hold adequate consultations with the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the parents."
The guidelines also expect that proprietors construct additional structures and employ more teachers to ensure that they accommodate their students by adhering to the two-metre spacing system in classrooms.
It also mandated proprietors to seek "grants to procure soaps and buckets, ensure regular safe water supply, ensure a constant supply of learning and instructional materials, and pay salaries on time."

Post-match press conference: What Mikel Arteta just said on Bukayo Saka, dropping Matteo Guendouzi and Southampton win

This is the full transcript of Arsenal team manager Mikel Arteta's post-match press conference following the Gunners 2-0 win over Southampton
Mikel Arteta spoke well about Bukayo Saka after Arsenal's win over Southampton
The interviewer said "good win Mikel, how relieved were you?
The manager replied "We had two very difficult weeks with a lot of things that happened to us. I was concerned after the defeat at Brighton, the way we threw the game away, it really touched the team, confidence is everything in this game. We had to lift them up but I could see yesterday that the reaction was really positive, they were really at it and we just demanded them to play together, to enjoy competing with each other and defending each other as much as possible and they will be fine. It was an important win for us."
The second question from the interviewer "Granit Xhaka came back, you miss him when he's not there don't you?
Manager's reply "He's a big presence. He's someone that doesn't hide, he has very clear principles and values and he puts that on the pitch every time he's there and he's come in and he's excellent. I think he sets a really good example for the rest but I don't like to use [single out] any individual. I think today the starters, the subs and the players I didn't use were all with the right energy, right commitment and right intention every time they jumped in the pitch."
The third question from the interviewer "can you explain your thinking of leaving Matteo Guendouzi out?
Manager's reply "It was squad management."
Fourth question from the interviewer "how much does the result renew belief that European football can be attained?
Manager's reply "I don't want to talk about what's going to happen in the table, I am concerned about what we do every day in training and how we prepare and compete in the games. We had two very different games against City and Brighton. Against City, we lost two players in 20 minutes and played 45 minutes with 10 men and gave them two goals. Against Brighton, we had total control of the game and threw it away in seven minutes. I know what this team can do but only when we are 100 per cent focused and competing and committed to what we do. If not, at the moment we are average. Today we showed when we do it we are difficult to beat and we can win in any ground."
The fifth question from the interviewer "did game management win you the match today?
Manager's reply "Absolutely. We have to develop and evolve as a team and there is a lot of things we have to improve, recognise and probably go through in a negative way to learn but they [the team] are so willing. The way they follow us it's incredible. I never criticise the effort or how much they want it, I was a little bit critical at how we competed and how we gave the opponent [Brighton] points, that's the disappointment. There are small details, I know we are a very young team with a lot of inexperience but in the Premier League, we have to manage some moments. You cannot play the same way for 100 minutes, it's not possible."
Sixth question from the interviewer "was the back three something worked on over lockdown? Will we see it again?
Manager's reply "We will change the game plan in relation to what we want to generate attacking-wise as well as how we constrain the opponent and control their strengths better. As well with the players, we have, what's the best fit for everyone to play in their positions and be more comfortable and secure about their jobs. We don't have the flexibility I'd like right now to change more things but it's part of the process."
The seventh question from the interviewer "how important was it to win before Sheffield United in the FA Cup?
Manager's reply "[It was] very important because confidence is everything in sport - in general - but when you play team sport even better because you have to share that chemistry, those feelings, that energy. The win will be very good for the squad, the belief and to keep going on the process that we have said and as well because of all the injuries and things that have been happening, the team suffers a little bit. It's a lot to take in a very short space of time but they are so willing."
Eighth question from the interviewer "was Guendouzi's absence linked to comments made to Brighton players?
Manager's reply "Whatever issue we have internally, I will resolve it in a private way. I explained what I can explain and that's it."
Ninth question from the interviewer "does it enhance your decision making when you drop Guendouzi and Ozil and win? Are the Arsenal players getting the message of the standards you expect?
Manager's reply "I don't like to make decisions to send messages. The messages I send to the team or individually are very open and clear with how I feel. Winning is the most important thing and when you win it's fine."
Tenth question from the interviewer "what do you have to say about Eddie Nketiah's performance?
Manager's reply "Eddie since I joined, the maturity and personality that he plays [with in] every game is incredible. I demand a lot from the forward players to put the opponent under pressure and they've done it. A lot of the goals we score are because of the errors we force on the opponent.
"In that heat to keep chasing players and putting them under pressure, sometimes it's not a nice thing to do but when you get a goal and the mistakes they [Southampton] done that could have led to a few other goals, it's really important. It generates belief in what they do and pays the price a little for the effort it makes. I am happy with Eddie, the way he's played today again, but I am happy with the team and I'm really happy with the subs, the way they came and how much they helped the team and the attitude that they showed today."
Eleventh question from the interviewer "what can you say about Bukayo Saka's performances and how important is it that he stays?
Manager's reply "It's in his hands. He has a manager who has total belief in him, a club that really supports him and teammates that adore him for who he is. He's such a nice boy, he's very intelligent and he's so willing to learn. He's eager to be the best, he trains to be the best every day and you can put him in different positions and he picks [them] up really quickly. The decisions he makes, he takes risks, I think he [could have] produced three goals today easily and the maturity that he shows on the pitch is really good."
Below are some facts vs Southampton
Rob Holding vs Southampton (A):
4/4 aerial duels won
8 clearances

Needs To Stop Racism And Slave Trade Among African Americans Who Think They Are Premium

The topic has been raised on twitter and there are lots of reactions from people about racism and slave trade among the black.

Tomi said "African Americans don't give two shits about Africans and the subtle bullying and discrimination has been happening far way too long, yet we protest with them, sign their petition. I can't keep rolling for people who think I am beneath them.

King Nonny said " African Americans think they are better than Africans because they stay with white racists that kill them for even breathing. Do you know how you have to be to think that you are better than your fellow Africans because you are living with racists? So pathetic.

Elder Seun gave an illustration that " your father is from Nigeria and your mother is from Kenya but you unfortunate lot, because you were born abroad, then you think you are better than Africans.

"Get the facts straight, you are not Black American. You and your kinds are African American privileged to be living somewhere far from home.

There are facts that Africans are racists, and are protesting against racism. Africans need to stop racism among themselves, stop slave trade in some African country like Libya, then racism can be curb.

Results and analysis of EPL matches played yesterday, Sunday.

Here are the results and analysis of EPL matches played yesterday, Sunday

14:00 FT: Sheffield United faltered on Sunday, in its bid for a Champions League spot, losing 3-0 at Newcastle, who could be under new ownership by a controversial Saudi-backed consortium.

The team manager Steve Bruce disclosed before the kick-off match that it had been a “distraction” but it did not prevent his side from securing an impressive victory, helped by the second-half dismissal for two yellow cards which result to a red card of visiting defender John Egan.

Allan Saint-Maximin scored the opener shortly after John Egan was sent off from the pitch and Matt Ritchie doubled Newcastle lead with a well-hit strike 14 minutes later.

The third goal came from Brazilian striker Joelinton, who earlier had missed a cast-iron first-half chance to put his side ahead in the match.

It was his first goal in the league since August 25, 2019, against Tottenham and his fourth of the season following his £40 million ($44 million) move from Hoffenheim last summer transfer window.

Despite a draw and a loss since the restart of the campaign, the club are just two points behind fifth-place Manchester United, which drew 1-1 with Tottenham on Friday.

16:15 FT

Sunday afternoon, Chelsea secured its grip on fourth place with a 2-1 win at relegation-threatened Aston Villa.

Kortney Hause put Villa ahead with one goal against the run of play just before halftime, but after the break, it continued to be one-way traffic as Chelsea dominated possession without carving out a line of luck.

The Manager of Chelsea Frank Lampard brought in US international Christian Pulisic in a bid to stir his attack and it paid almost immediately as he connected with Cesar Azpilicueta cross to half-volley an equalizer in the 60th minute.

The winning goal came just two minutes later as Olivier Giroud was given time to turn in the penalty box and his deflected shot beat Orjan Nyland in the Villa goal.

19:00 FT

Liverpool took a stuttering step towards its first English league title in 30 years as the champion-elect was held to a goalless draw by Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Sunday.

It was not the good result that Jurgen Klopp’s men wanted on their return to football action after a three-month holiday, but with a 23-point lead over Manchester City, celebrations will not be long delayed.

Lagos State bans motorist from Illegal Parking, introduced penalty of #200,000 For One-Way Offence.

Lagos State Govt bans motorist from parking illegally on major roads, the governor demanded an improvement in the free-flow of traffic statewide, with full enforcement of the Lagos State Traffic Laws and arrest of all traffic offenders without preference for civil servants, party members, security agencies, friends and family and so on.

The Lagos State Traffic Laws, passed by the State House of Assembly, was designed to protect law-abiding road users, while violators face the consequences of their actions. The sanctions range from N5,000 fine to N50,000, jail terms and forfeiture of vehicles.

But the new regime has introduced a severe penalty of N200,000 for one-way offence, such as is not known to the subsisting traffic laws. Also, all the violations that erstwhile had no monetary penalties now attract fines of between N20,000 to N90,000.

For instance, offences like failure to use seat belt, unclosed doors or standing on the doorway while in motion, all attract N20,000 each. Parking on the highway, obstruction of traffic, picking or dropping passengers on illegal bus-stop attract N50,000 fine.

Also, making a reverse on the highway, driving on kerbs and parking on walkways now attract N50,000 penalty. Driving on BRT designated lanes is N70,000 while dropping passengers on laybys is slammed at N90,000 fine. And for every night a seized vehicle spends in the custody of LASTMA, an N1,000 fine is paid.

The Guardian learnt that the severe penalty regime was the initiative of the LASTMA hierarchy, “to ensure that apprehended violators do not easily get out of the offence, unlike before. The law says we should impound a vehicle that drives against traffic, which is the most common traffic offence these days.

“But giving them a fine of N50,000 is like a slap on the wrist. But with N200,000 fine or risk of impounding and being shown on camera during the mobile court trial, they will think twice. The essence is deterrence,” a top official said yesterday.

The Guardian observed that the option before a one-way offender, among others, is to appear in court or appeal for out-of-court settlement and submission to fine.

The “lesser evil” of fine requires the one-way violator to sign an undertaken, pleading guilty to other lesser traffic offences, but not one-way. The violator would later realise that the penalty for the lesser offences all summed to about N200,000.

The mobile court option is not any better. It goes with a court bond of between N100,000 to N150,000 initial fine payable by a violator who is still on trial. With the bond paid, the offender’s vehicle is released but must keep appearing in court until the case is closed.
