Gunmen kill 1, abduct ex-US soldier, another in Ekiti State

The Police in Ekiti on Tuesday confirmed the killing of one person and abduction of a retired U.S army officer, Maj. Jide Ijadare, and one other by unknown gunmen.

The Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) in the state, Mr. Sunday Abutu who confirmed the incident, said it happened in Ijan Ekiti, Gbonyin Local Government area of the state.

“We can confirm to you that a retired U.S. soldier and one other were kidnapped around 2:00p.m today (Tuesday).

“One person was also killed during the attack at a factory in Ijan Ekiti where the two persons were kidnapped.

“The Police Commissioner has drafted policemen to the place and we are combing the bushes where they escaped into.

“The police is working with local hunters to ensure that these kidnappers are arrested and prosecuted,” the PPRO said.

The incident came barely 24 hours after the the Director, General Administration in the state Local Government Service Commission, Mr David Jejelowo, was reportedly killed in his house by yet to be identified persons.

The News Agency of Nigeria, (NAN) gathered that Ijadare, a native of Ijan Ekiti, was kidnapped in his palm oil producing factory located on Ijan-Ise-Ekiti road.

The suspected kidnappers, said to be seven in number, had invaded the factory where they shot dead one person in a bid to kidnap the retired army officer and the other victim.

NAN learnt that the gunmen stormed the factory, shot sporadically and killing one person, before dragging Maj. Ijadare and the other staff member into the car and zooming off.

NSCDC Officer Killed By Gunmen In Kaduna State

Gunmen yet to be identified has reportedly killed an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Kaduna State.

According to the report confirmed to newsmen in a statement released on Tuesday, September 8, by the NSCDC command, Mr Bulus Sanda was kidnapped from his residence at Mararaba-Rido, in Chikun Local Government Area of the state.

The NSCDC Commandant, Babangida Dutsinma through the Public Relations Officer of the security agency, Mr Orndiir Terzungwe told newsmen in Kaduna the deceased was abducted from his apartment.

Terzungwe noted that Sanda joined the corps in 2010 and served in different locations, adding that he was dedicated to his duty in an exemplary manner.

“His last location was Kaduna-North Division. He even received an award a day before his abduction and eventual death,” he said.

The commandant regretted the death of the officer as he commiserated with his family, prayed God to grant them the fortitude to bear the loss of their beloved.

He, however, urged residents to support the activities of security agencies in the state to ensure the safety of lives and property.

Gunmen attack church, kill 4 in Bayelsa

Unidentified gunmen have invaded a Pentecostal church in Azikoro village, Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, and killed four worshippers.

The hoodlums, who stormed the Church at about 11 pm on Wednesday, also set a nearby house ablaze.

The spokesman of the Bayelsa State Police Command, SP Asinim Butswat, confirmed the incident, saying the command’s operatives have already launched a manhunt for the killers.

He said: “The Bayelsa State Police Command have launched a manhunt for the suspected cultists who murdered four victims and set a house ablaze.

“On 5th August 2020, at about 2300hours, armed suspected cultists stormed the ‘Lion of Judah Church’ Azikoro village, Yenagoa Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, shot dead four church members namely; Alfred Marcus 30 years, Imomotimi surname unknown 25 years, Gabriel Ejimofor 45 years and Uchechukwu Ejimofor 38 years and set ablaze a nearby building, damaged a vehicle and the church property.

“Operatives of operation Puff Adder had earlier traced the hideouts of the cultists in the bush, dislodged them, and burnt their camp.

“It is believed that this is a reprisal attack by the suspected cultists.

“Meanwhile, two suspects have been arrested and are cooperating with the Police in their investigation.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Mike Okoli fsi, has visited the scene, reassured members of the community of adequate police protection and ordered for full Investigation to unravel the motive for this dastardly attack,” he said.
