JAMB announces new date for 2020 post-UTME screening

The 2020/2021 post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination screening will commence in Nigeria’s higher institutions on September 7.

The agreement was reportedly reached at a meeting between the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board and Vice-Chancellors, Rectors, and Provosts of tertiary institutions today.

Registrar of JAMB, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, who made the announcement, said the screening would now hold between September 7 and November 18.

Earlier, the board had issued a guideline for all tertiary institutions to begin their admissions with effect from August 20.

Oloyede said the adjustment in the date would allow students taking the 2020 O’ level examinations to be able to participate in the screening.

He said, “Presently as you are aware, WAEC starts the Senior School Certificate Examination on August 17, it will go on till September 7.

“Similarly, on September 21 or thereabout, NABTEB will commence its examination that will go on till on the 15 of October, and immediately after that, NECO starts on the 5th and will hold till 18 of November.

“Rather than making candidates run, particularly, when they will have to write their school certificate exam in different towns and rush to university elsewhere for post-UTME, like somebody rushing from Sokoto to Ibadan for post-UTME, we believe as a custodian of the highest sector of the education system, we should avoid that.

“For those (institutions) who want to take post-UTME, that cannot be earlier than the 7th of September and it will be held twice – September 7 to October 4, and then it will be held for the second time on the 18 November to mop up those who are taking their school certificate examination.”

If You Own A Car In Nigeria, Police Has No Right To Demand The Following Documents

If You Own A Car In Nigeria, Police Has No Right To Demand The Following Documents

The basic reason for the formation of the Nigerian police force is for the protection of lives and property. But in recent times some bad elements have taken over the Nigerian Police Force leaving the ordinary citizens under the apprehension of fear.

Road blocks in Nigeria has come to stay despite several orders issued from different Inspector Generals of police over the years. Although it is unconstitutional for police to mount road blocks but they derive pide in doing so.

What is the business of the police with Drivers Licence?

The police has no right in law to demand for drivers Licence. The drivers Licence is the property of the Federal Road safety which is saddled with the responsibility of issuing licenses for drivers and also checking who is qualified to drive on Nigerian Roads.

As the name implies “Road safety” it’s there job to know who is qualified to drive or not and not the police.

Even as the police have no clue on how to detect fake Drivers Licence, hence one will wonder why they usually demand for it.

Road Worthiness Certificate

Again the Nigerian police is usually found of asking drivers for this. This Certificate is a primary clearance that your car is road worthy and can be driven on Nigerian Roads. Again a basic job of the Federal Road safety but our over zealous police men have once again taken over this function.

Insurance certificate

Please i would want someone to please suggest to me just one reason the police should be interested in your car been insured. I wonder if insurance is not a personal business. People insure their cars to get financial protection against physical damage or bodily harm as a result of collision.

Documents such as:

*Proof of ownership

*Vehicle Registration

These two sounds abit reasonable for the police to enquire about for the sake of stolen cars. The two documents shows the identity of the real owner of the car, engine and chassis number of the car and whether or not it matches any case of stolen car in the police record.

Please Note i am not of the opinion that you shouldn’t show the police documents when they ask. The essence of this article is to question the rationale behind the constant demand of these documents.

You may also agree with me that since the police started carrying out the functions of the Federal Road safety, The Road safety has little or nothing to do anymore.

You went through surgery to look like me – Toyin Lawani throws shade at BBNaija housemate who also called her an ‘amoeba’ while dating her baby daddy

Toyin Lawani has dropped a shade for an unmentioned Big Brother Naija housemate as she recounted some past experiences with the female housemate she insinuated dated her baby daddy, Lord Trigg.

Narrating how she was called an old hag and an amoeba in a shade post shared on her baby daddy’s Instagram account in 2018, the celebrity stylist said she later found out it was her baby daddy’s girlfriend that used his phone in making the post.

Pointing out how same words were used in a fight Lucy was involved in shortly after the BBNaija eviction show on Sunday night, the mother of two alleged that the reality show star she is shading also went under the knife to look like her.

Toyin Lawani also disclosed that she went fibriod surgery and breast lump removal in Turkey at that time and not for plastic surgery. She added that if the BBNaija housemate never “looked for her trouble in the past, she wouldn’t look for her trouble in the future”.

Federal, States meet on ‘next step’ as exit pupils return

There was a high turnout of pupils in the exit classes on Monday in many parts of the country as secondary schools reopened their gates for return of classes, after four months of COVID-19 lockdown.

Our correspondents across the states monitored the reopening of the schools and the observance of protocols among the pupils, their teachers and school workers.

In Ekiti State, our correspondent visited some public and private schools in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where the pupils and their teachers complied with the COVID-19 safety protocols.

At Ado-Ekiti Grammar School, teachers taking the classes followed COVID-19 guidelines, ahead of the commencement of the West African Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE).

The school’s Head Teacher Oluwatosin Ajayi said he had about 205 pupils registered for WASSCE, while about 95 per cent of the pupils had resumed.

Head Teacher of Muslim College, Mr Gbadamosi Abubakar, said the school was prepared for resumption and revisions before the commencement of the WASSCE.

In Kano State, pupils’ turnout was impressive; boarders had returned on Sunday.

Some of the pupils were excited about their resumption of classes after sitting at home since March 19.

Workers of the Ministry of Education checked the pupils and their teachers to ensure compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.

Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje expressed delight about the pupils’ impressive turnout and observance of COVID-19 protocols.

The governor had shared Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the state’s 538 public and private schools ahead of yesterday’s reopening.

A statement by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Abba Anwar, praised the pupils for their compliance with the COVID-19 protocols.

Pupils in exit classes (JSS and SS3) in Katsina State also resumed classes yesterday, as directed by the state government, to prepare for their examinations.

Public Relations Officer in the Ministry of Education, Salisu Lawal Karau, confirmed the resumption of schools.

He said the government’s inspection team would go out today to monitor compliance to protocols among the schools.

Our correspondent reports that there was a high turnout of pupils.

Majority of the primary school pupils told The Nation that though they were told to come to school, they could not see any teacher tell them what to do.

None of the teachers was on the ground when our correspondent visited the school.

A pupil of the Government Girls’ Science College, Raliat Ibrahim, said: “For students, it will be difficult for us to stop hugging or coming close to each other. Shaking hands, hugging will be difficult for students to stop it but we will work on it because it is for our own good and for our health.”
