Banue Terrorist Gana Was eliminated to prevent him from implicating top politicians sponsoring his activities.

A new development has been revealed over the death of a wanted militant in Benue State, Terwase Akwaza also known as Gana, on Tuesday.

Gana was reported to be the most wanted criminal in the state and was eliminated to prevent him from implicating top politicians sponsoring his activities.

Military sources which spoke with SaharaReporters noted that former Governor of Benue State, Gabriel Suswam is one of Gana’s sponsors.

The news platform noted that the sources also disclosed that the late militant was also close to some top military officers in the country and was therefore killed to conceal these facts.

The late Gana, who had a N50m bounty on his head by the state and federal governments, had been on the wanted list for close to four years over his alleged criminal activities.

In 2015, Governor Ortom granted amnesty to over 500 criminals and the late militia leader was among those, who took advantage of it to surrender over 700 arms to the government.

Gana, however, went back to his dealings and returned to his hideout in the Sankera axis of the state alongside his followers and gang members.

This happened after the murdered militant was accused of killing an aide of the governor on Special Security, Deneen Igbana, in 2016 in Makurdi.

He was said to be heading to Makurdi on Tuesday to surrender under a new amnesty arrangement by the state government when he was killed by the military.

The development has since been condemned by Governor Ortom

The Benue State Governor noted that the military was carried along in the amnesty programme for militias in the state.

He said, “We were waiting for the repentant militias when I received a call that Gana and others have been arrested close to Yandev Roundabout in Gboko by soldiers.

“Many of the repentant militias had weapons in which they were bringing to surrender to us.

“The process of the amnesty programme was known to the security operatives, so I don’t know why they have to be arrested.”

Commander, 4 Special Forces Command, Doma, Nasarawa State, Major General Moundhey Ali, said that Gana was killed following exchange of gunfire with the army.

Ali said about 40 members of Gana’s gang were captured in the process

V.P Yemi Osinbajo says the notion that victims or potential victims of sexual harassment are architects of their fate

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo says the notion that victims or potential victims of sexual harassment are architects of their fate, especially by their attitude, dressing or willingness to be in a compromising place with their violators is wrong.

Osinbajo was quoted in a statement in Abuja by his aide, Laolu Akande, to have expressed this view on Wednesday at a webinar on Anti-Sexual Harassment.

The theme of the webinar is, “Finding Safe Spaces for Female Students in Nigerian Universities,” organised by the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife.

The event was based on the book authored by notable journalist and former presidential spokesman, Mr Olusegun Adeniyi, titled Naked Abuse: Sex for Grades in African Universities.

The vice president said the idea of blaming the victim should be resisted in every situation.

“The victim must always be seen as the victim; there cannot be an excuse, especially given the power configuration between students and lecturers, that the victim could have somehow invited the abuse upon themselves.

“ I think it is an important consideration to be made and we must not allow that notion to persist.

“There cannot be an excuse especially given the power configuration between students and lecturers that the victim could have somehow invited the abuse upon themselves.

“ I think it is an important consideration to be made and we must not allow that notion to persist.

He said that there was also the comparison sometimes made between demanding bribes for service and sex for grades.

According to the vice president, people will argue sometimes that a bribe is a bribe and there is no reason why the punishment for sex as the currency of the bribe should be stricter than an ordinary bribe.

Osinbajo said developing and adhering to a set of ethical codes of conduct for conversations and interactions involving lecturers and students in universities would greatly address the problem.

To ensure that both faculty and students are sufficiently clear about the issues and rules, there is a need for a code of conduct or ethical guidelines based on best practices in appropriate student/lecturer interactions.

“It is important that these are clearly defined in ethical guidelines that are contained in some documents that people can refer to and see.

“It is important both for the lecturer and the student that there is some reference to some code of conduct,” he said.

Osinbajo also recommended the adoption of a mandatory well thought-out whistleblower process, emphasising confidentiality, professional legal and medical help for victims or potential victims.

Dignitaries, who also spoke at the webinar besides Adeniyi, the Guest Speaker, included the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq.

The First Lady of Ekiti State, Mrs Bisi Adeleye-Fayemi and the Vice Chancellor of OAU, Prof. Eyitope Ogunbode also featured.

Meanwhile, in another development, Osinbajo underscored the synergy between the legislature and the executive in supporting policies and programmes of the administration, especially those geared towards boosting the nation’s economic base.

The vice president made the submission on Wednesday at a virtual Citizens’ Dialogue on the Green Imperative Project.

The Green Imperative Project is a bilateral initiative between Nigeria and Brazilian to develop Nigeria’s agricultural production base through a mechanisation programme that is spread across the 774 Local Government Areas in the country.

Sanwo-Olu made the promise on Wednesday during the virtual training of the teachers tagged “Eko Educators Webinar Performance Series 3.3”.

He said that his administration was committed to rewarding excellent service delivery in Lagos State Post-Primary Teaching Service.

According to him, teachers are key change agents who will be remembered for shaping future generation of leaders.

He urged them to embrace technology in improving the quality of teaching to enhance their productivity.

”This is the era of technology and it is working well for us. Technology has become a very strong tool that we cannot do away with in our everyday lives. With technology, we can think locally and act globally,” Sanwo-Olu said.

The governor said that great teachers were always remembered for the lives they shaped, just as they derived satisfaction in seeing their students become role models and future leaders.

On her part, the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, said that any school system thrived on the quality of teaching and learning which was exhibited through the quality of teachers with a multiplier effect on the students.

Adefisayo commended Lagos State teachers for indulging in self-development to complement the government organised training.

Adefisayo also commended the Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) board for the idea of the virtual training, which was vital to the progress of the education sector in the state.

She said that as the present administration’s battle against the COVID-19 continued, teachers were expected to put in their best in guiding the children aright, especially those who might had gone through different forms of abuse and trauma during the lockdown period.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairman of TESCOM, Mrs Elizabeth Ariyo, said that the webinar was a conscious effort of the commission to improve teaching styles, optimise the teaching profession and enhance the lives of the children, and ultimately, their future.

Ariyo said that the webinar was organised for Post-Primary School Teachers in Lagos State as a way of elevating their level of preparedness and pro-activeness in teaching and learning in order to meet the challenges of the ‘new normal’.

”The platform intends to address teachers’ wellness and well-being, as well as update them on new trends to improve their teaching skills,” she said.

Ariyo appreciated the generosity of Gov. Sanwo-Olu for the approval of the Teachers’ Exit Replacement programme with over 1,000 new appointees and the Retrospective Course approval for over 700 Teachers which had lingered since 2013.

She also commended the governor for the approval of digital training of all Post-Primary Schools Teachers on Microsoft Teams platform; and Capacity Enhancement of Teachers in Lagos State among other initiatives, which had boosted proper integration of TESCOM in the ”new normal”.

The Permanent Secretary, TESCOM, Mrs Toyin Awoseyi, said that the presence of the governor at the webinar, affirmed his commitment to education.

Awoseyi urged the participants to put in their best for the development and progress of the sector in the state.

APC chieftain says petrol, electricity deregulation exposes PDP, Atiku’s hypocrisy

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has said that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was being hypocritical by criticising Federal Government’s recent decision to increase petroleum pump price from N143 to N151 per litre and to deregulate the petroleum sector.

The party said this in a statement issued by Mr Yekini Nabena, a chieftain of the party, on Wednesday in Abuja.

The party also accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar who was PDP presidential candidate in the 2019 presidential election of being “two faced” for speaking against the decision.

The PDP it would be recalled had in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan rejected the new fuel price and hike in electricity tariff.

“The PDP vehemently rejects the fresh increase in the price of fuel to N151 per liter and electricity tariff to N66 per kwh under the APC and its government,” Ologbondiyan had said.

He demanded for a reversal of the prices to avert what he called a national crisis.

According to him, the increase will result in upsurge in costs of goods and services and worsen the biting hardship being faced by Nigerians.

The APC, however, said it received with some amazement comments attributed to the PDP and Atiku Abubakar on the development.

The APC spokesman said the PDP and Atiku’s reaction to what had been adjudged an inevitability by many experts clearly depicts the height of hypocrisy demonstrated by them on issues relating to the country’s progress and well being.

It’s rather unfortunate, if truly, the comments reported by a section of the media, condemning the removal of petrol subsidy, is attributed to Atiku Abubakar.

“Atiku’s comments clearly reveals his two-facedness and portrays him as a man not only acutely lacking in integrity but one that should never be trusted,” Nabena said.

According to him, the former vice president was part of the government that created the corrupt petrol subsidy monster and also the chaos in the electricity sector.

Nabena added that a further portrayal of Atiku’s hypocrisy was his pretentious promise to deregulate the downstream petroleum sector by privatising the NNPC.

“Atiku made the sale of NNPC to his friends and the deregulation of both the PMS and the electricity sector the hallmark of his 2019 presidential election misadventure,” he further said.

Nabena recalled that Atiku had argued at different fora in 2018 and early 2019 that NNPC and the power sector must be disbanded through privatisation if they must be efficient.

He also recalled that Atiku’s campaign platform, during the electioneering, emphasised on the liberalisation of the downstream sector of the petroleum industry.

“Recently, specifically in June, 2020, Atiku, in a tweet, hailed the Buhari administration’s drive to remove subsidy on petrol, saying that the stoppage of subsidy and price fixing is a right move,” Nabena said.

He noted that even Atiku’s Economic Adviser, Mustapha Chike-Obi, had the decency to hail Federal Government’s decision to remove subsidies for petrol and electricity.

He maintained that judging from its background as a party that instituted the subsidy regime in the petrol sector, the PDP lacked the moral to question an honest move by the Buhari-led administration to find lasting solutions to the problems it caused.

He stressed that the PDP describing the deregulation of the price of petrol by the APC-led government as callous and cruel was rather sarcastic.

This, Nabena said, was especially so, given the pain and anguish suffered by Nigerians on long queues at petrol stations when the PDP-led government presided over a corrupt subsidy regime.

He added that it was therefore laughable that the same set of people would turn around and condemn decisions taken to fix the mess they created in the system.

“The PDP’s outburst indeed exposes once again its real fraudulent character and plot to patronise Nigerians and make them suffer in perpetuity by keeping a fraudulent subsidy arrangement that feeds a few individuals at the expense of the masses.

“Judging from the foregoing, the PDP, Atiku Abubakar, and comments attributed to them should not be taken seriously,” he said.

He added that in line with the drive to deregulate the oil sector, the petroleum products pricing template now reflects competitive and market driven components.

He further said that this had in turn freed up cash to fund the ongoing development of critical infrastructure across the country.

Nnamdi Kanu Reply Orji Uzor Kalu, Warn Him On Biafra Agitation, Reveals When He Will Return To Nigeria

The leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)Nnamdi Kanu, has warned the former governor of Abia state and the Senate Chief Whip, Orji Uzor Kalu on his recent statement about Biafra agitation.

The Senate Chief Whip pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to allow him to convince the IPOB leader to stop his agitation for the Republic of Biafra.

In a statement released in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Tuesday, the former governor had said Kanu will listen to him. He stated this in reaction to the recent altercation between members of IPOB and security personnel in Enugu state.

Senator Kalu had said he is a believer in one Nigeria and believes that people of the country are so entangled with each other that no one should be talking about separation. He added that what the country needs is to focus on taking advantage of the country’s population to build a stronger economy.

If the Federal Government permits me, I will go to the United Kingdom and negotiate with Nnamdi Kanu to return to Nigeria. I will convince him to drop the agitation for Biafra because our people don’t need it,” Kalu had said.

However, reacting to the claims by Kalu during a live broadcast on Radio Biafra monitored by this reporter on Wednesday evening, Kanu warned that anybody coming to him with the intention of convincing him to drop the idea of Biafra, he can assure them that what happened to Ike Ekweremadu, a former Senate President who was attacked in Germany last year by IPOB members, “will be a child’s play to such individual.”

Kanu warned that he has not mandated anybody to speak on his behalf to meet with Nigeria government nor representative to negotiate to stop Biafra agitation, adding that he will only meet Nigeria government to show him boundaries of “Biafra land  and sign the necessary documents”

The IPOB leader said: “Anybody coming to me with intention of convincing me to drop the idea of Biafra, I can assure you what happened to Ike Ekweremadu will be a child’s play to such an individual. This is the era of saboteurs and we must be very careful.

“I have not mandated anybody to speak on my behalf or myself to meet with Nigeria government nor representative to negotiate to stop Biafra agitation. I will only meet Nigeria government to show me boundaries of Biafra land and sign the necessary documents.”

Mrs Olubukola Olaboopo, Commissioner For Women, Children and Social Affairs and the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Diaspora Matters, Mrs Titi Fadahunsi-Ajayi received the returnees on behalf of the state government.

Olaboopo in her remarks said government was happy to receive the girls alive from Lebanon.

The commissioner said the state government had put necessary measures in place for their reintegration into the society.

She said, “I welcome our ladies back to the state of Omoluabi. You are safe in the state, and the government will do all that it can to ensure that you have a good life going forward.

“There is no harm in trying. The fact that you went abroad to hustle does not mean that you should be stigmatised.

“We as government are very proud of you for taking a bold step and trying something new.

“You have had the experience first hand, and you are going to be the state’s ambassadors on issues of trafficking.

“The state government expects you to put in diligence in serving your motherland. You have seen the other side of life, and of course, you can see that there is no greener pasture anywhere, but home.

“We want to know your qualifications to know how the government can assist you. Besides, we have organised an Empowerment Programme for you, and your resource persons are on ground to take you through the training,” she said.

Also speaking at the reception, Fadahunsi-Ajayi, said the government would do everything within its powers to make life meaningful for the girls.

She commended Gov. Gboyega Oyetola for promptly acting on the distress calls of the girls in Lebanon that they desired to return home.

“Sometime in August, a letter came in from the Nigerian In Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) to the governor asking for help in evacuating some of our indigenes stranded in Lebanon.

“It was a distress call from these ladies, who were going through hell in Lebanon and had to cry out.

” They had terrible experiences, which made some of them decide to run away from their masters. Immediately the governor got the letter, he released funds that same day.

“He was so magnanimous, he felt the pains of a father and requested that they be brought back.

“The process was stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic, but we thank God, 15 of them are back and the others will join us later in the day.

“The governor did not only release funds for their tickets, he also approved a token for each of the girls to empower them,” Fadahunsi-Ajayi said.

One of the returnees, Amina Kajobola thanked the state government and the governor for rescuing them from Lebanon.

Kajobola, who described her experience and that of other girls in Lebanon as horrible, said the quick response of the state government to their distress calls saved their lives.

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has pledged his government’s continued partnership with the military and other security agencies to ensure peace and order in the state.

Okowa made the pledge on Wednesday, September 9, 2020 when Maj.-Gen. Olubunmi Irefin, the new General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port-Harcourt, visited him at Government House, Asaba.

He charged the army to sustain the current peace and security in the Niger Delta, adding that the Delta government has enjoyed a robust relationship with security agencies.

According to Okowa, the partnership between the state and security agencies has helped to ensure peace and security of lives and property and has also made Delta an investors’ destination.

“We are happy that sea piracy has reduced in Delta and we pledge the support of the South-South states to ensure protection of oil installations in the region.

“I assure you of our cooperation at all times because we have had very warm working relations with the division since inception.

“The military and other security agencies have worked quite a lot with us to ensure peace within the state. There is still a lot to be done but we have done quite a lot,” he said.

The governor commended the army formations for cooperating with other security agencies to ensure peace in the Niger Delta.

“I appreciate your division, the brigade and other military formations for all your efforts in ensuring peace and security in the entire Niger Delta.

“Sea piracy is still there, but it has largely reduced in Delta and we will continue to work hard and provide the needed support because when there is a perfect working relationship, to support becomes easier.

Federal Government instruct hospitals to replace striking doctors with corps members

The federal government has directed the Chief Medical Directors and Managing Directors of federal tertiary hospitals in the country to start using consultants and doctors on the National Youth Service Corps to provide routine services.

The Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire gave the directive on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, in a statement issued in Abuja.

The statement was issued following the nationwide strike by the National Association of Resident Doctors over the non-payment of their COVID-19 hazard allowance and other demands.

The government had on Tuesday urged the doctors to suspend the industrial action, saying six out of their eight demands have been addressed.

However, in the statement on Wednesday, the federal government said embarking on a strike at a time the nation is ill-advised.

Owing to the industrial action, the government said it’s ‘necessary to ensure measures are put in place to mitigate the effect of this strike on the generality of our populace.’

The statement reads, “lt is with deep concern that l view the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors which commenced yesterday (Tuesday) September 7, 2020.

“We must remember that the primary duty of doctors and all health workers is to save lives. Embarking on a strike in this time that the country is battling with the COVlD-19 pandemic is ill-timed and ill-advised.

“lt is a critical time in which all well-meaning medical professionals should close ranks and confront the common enemy, which is the COVlD-I9 pandemic threatening mankind.

“This is therefore one strike too many. Besides, most of the demands have been met and others, though, difficult, are at an advanced stage of implementation. A little patience would have made a big difference.

“The Federal Ministry of Health finds it necessary to ensure measures are put in place to mitigate the effect of this strike on the generality of our populace by directing the CMDs/MDs of our federal tertiary hospitals to immediately do the following: COVlD-19 treatment outlets should continue to function as before.

“Emergency services should continue to run as before. Routine services should be maintained with Consultants, NYSC Doctors. Locum staffers to be brought in when and where necessary to forestall services disruption when applicable and affordable.

“I call on the NARD to return to work and engage the Federal Government in completing the ongoing due process of implementing the MoU between NARD and government.

“I wish to assure the general public that measures have been put in place to ensure that they continue to access services at all our federal tertiary hospitals across the country”.

You’ll recall that in August, medical doctors battling the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria’s capital city of Abuja, threatened to embark on a strike to press home their demands from Tuesday, September 1, 2020.

The doctors said they haven’t been paid their allowances since June 2020.

Three days later, the missing underwear resurfaced where I had checked over and over and I made him realise his evil intention toward me.”

Sharing his own side of the story, Azeez said “Only God knows what would have happened or might still happen to me because I have made it clear to him that I will not continue with the relationship. Every now and then, she nags and packs in and out of the house”
