Face masks violators risk six months jail term in Ogun – Gov Dapo Abiodun

The Ogun state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has said that anybody who fails to wear face masks in the state will be jailed for six months without mercy.

He disclosed this on Wednesday at a press conference at his office in Okemosan, Abeokuta.

The governor noted that he is invoking jail term for face mask violators based on the powers invested in him by the Regulation 7 of the Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations No. 2 of 2020 (the Regulations), made pursuant to section 33 of the Public Health Law of Ogun State (the Law).

The governor added that he was not happy with the low compliance with the use of face masks.

Abiodun stressed that moving around without facemask is a big offence in the state.

He said, “wearing of face masks in the public is now compulsory. Therefore, I hereby invoke powers conferred on me by Regulation 7 of the Infectious Diseases (Emergency Prevention) Regulations No. 2 of 2020 (the Regulations), made pursuant to section 33 of the Public Health Law of Ogun State (the Law), to mandate the compulsory wearing of face masks by all persons in public as part of measures to prevent the rapid spread of the Coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
 
“Only one passenger is still allowed for motorcycles and two passengers only for tricycles; v. Taxi cabs and buses still have 60% limitation on their carrying capacity and the measure to arrest and impound any driver that contravenes this in our State is still in force.

Two Planes Collide At Lagos Airport

There was chaos at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos, after two airplanes collided on Wednesday.

An Airbus A330-243 owned by Middle East Airlines with registration number OD-MEA, ran into a Boeing 777 airplane with registration number TC-LJC operated by Turkish Airlines.

The Middle East airbus ran into the Turkish cargo flight, which was parked at the international airport apron, according to the Daily Sun.

The Turkish cargo plane was said to be parked at the tarmac when the MEA airbus which was taxiing ran into it.

The plane had to disembark its passengers who were already on board.Earlier this week, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, spoke about the efforts of the federal government towards the resumption of international flights in the country.

Mustapha, who is also the Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce (PTF) on COVID-19, said talks are currently ongoing between PTF and the Aviation Ministry.

While the Nigerian government gave a green light for the commencement of local flights, international flight was still restricted

Governor Dapo Abiodun Reopens Religious Centres, Schools Aug 14 But No Hugging, Handshake

Governor Abiodun said the school reopening, which takes effect on August 4 is for students in SSS3 classes.

Abiodun also announced automatic promotions for students in all classes.

He said worship centres will reopen on August 14, with strict adherence to specified guidelines.

The governor also reiterated that weekend lockdown will continue till August 14 when churches and mosques are expected to open for worshippers.

Meanwhile, congregational prayer will not be allowed during the Eid-el-Kabir, as the governor advised Muslim faithful to avoid large gatherings and observe social distancing while they celebrate Sallah

Gov. Dapo Abiodun cancels 3rd term as schools reopen on Tuesday

The Ogun state government has cancelled 3rd term for primary and post primary schools in the State while adding that the schools that have complied with the safety measures put in place to curtail the spread of covid-19 will open on Tuesday 4th August, 2020

2020 NECO exams start Oct 5, says FG

The Federal Government on Wednesday says this year ’ s Senior Secondary School Certificate Examinations for SSS 3 pupils organised by the National Examination Council will start October 5 and end November 18.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Press and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Education , Ben Goong .
In the statement titled , ‘ FG Rolls Out Schedule For National Examination’ , the ministry also said the National Business and Technical Examination Board examination would commence effective September 21 through October 15.
“ Registration for NECO ( SSCE) which is ongoing will end on the 10th of September 2020 and there shall be no extension for registration whatsoever, ” the statement noted .
The PUNCH had earlier reported that FG announced on Monday that this year ’ s West African Senior School Certificate Examination would commence on August 17.
