Nigerian Husband Drags Wife to Court For Always Beating Him Without Cause, Wife Reacts

A trader, Damilola Osilulu, on Tuesday told an Ile-Tuntun Customary Court in Ibadan that she beats her husband because he orders her around on how she should live her life.

Testifying before Chief Henry Agbaje, the President of the court, Damilola countered her husband’s accusation, claiming that her husband complains a lot and also makes senseless demands from her.

“Sometimes, Akinkunmi orders me to do senseless things and I don’t obey him.

“However, if I see wisdom in his demands, I try as much as possible to come down to his level.

“If I can’t take his nonsense, I hit him straight away because Akinkunmi feels he is the husband, and that he is also lord over me,” Damilola said.

Earlier in his account, Akinkunmi a printer, said that he filed the divorce suit to bring an end to his wife’s domination over his affairs, NAN reports.

“My lord, Damilola does not want me to have a say in the house as she challenges my authority.

“If I ask her to do anything, she questions my authority and violently attacks me.

“This is to the extent that people keep coming to our matrimonial home for settlement of rift every now and then.

“Only God knows what would have happened if I had reacted to her frequent attacks against me.

“Enough of Damilola’s nagging; I cannot continue to stand her disrespect.

“Besides, she doesn’t take proper care of our three-year-old child” Akinkunmi added.

In ruling, Agbaje prevailed on the couple to exercise more patience.

He advised relatives of both parties to do the needful by settling the matter.

Agbaje then adjourned the case until Aug. 31 for judgment.

Fayemi reshuffles cabinet, nominates 7 commissioners, 2 board members

Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has sent seven names of commissioner nominees to the House of Assembly for approval.

The major rejig must have been a deft move to placate some All Progressives Congress (APC) members, who felt short-changed with the way the cabinet was composed in 2018 .

Some APC members accused the governor of placing premium on appointment of professionals into his cabinet at the expense of politicians, who laboured for his victory in the July 14, 2018 poll.

This formed part of the issues raised by a presidential aide, Babafemi Ojudu, and other 12 aggrieved leaders in their diatribe against Fayemi, alleging that core politicians within the party, were sidelined in the cabinet.

But on Tuesday, Fayemi sent the list of seven new commissioner nominees to the Assembly for screening and ratification.
During the plenary, Speaker Funminiyi Afuye read the names of the nominees, including Diran Adesua (Ekiti East), Olabode Adetoyi (Moba), Olabimpe Aderiye (Ido Osi), Oye Filani (Ikole),  Iyabo Fakunle (Ilejemeje), Mariam Ogunlade (Emure) and Akin Omole (Oye), to the members.

Also nominated for board positions are Femi Akinwunmi, Ekiti State Universal Basic Education Board, while the current Commissioner for Lands, Febisola Adewale, has been sent for confirmation as commissioner in the Local Government Service Commission.

Fayemi’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, said it was part of the strategies to fortify the cabinet and bring in new bloods with fresh ideas to develop the state.

Oyebode, who spoke via telephone, said Fayemi was determined to deliver on his mandate to bring economic prosperity, by working with other progressives to give the people the required dividends of democracy.

It said 22 traffic robberies attempts were foiled and 10 assorted firearms, several ammunition, cutlasses, axes, charms and other dangerous items recovered from criminal elements within the period under review.

Briefing reporters at the command headquarters in Ikeja, Commissioner of Police (CP) Hakeem Odumosu said 39 suspects were held for cultism, four for kidnapping and 19 for murder.

He said the command successfully prevented annual July 7 and August 8 celebrations by cultists, adding that seven suicide attempts were also averted.

“The command also recovered three stolen vehicles. We have successfully nipped in the bud, the menace of kidnapping, especially on the waterways.

“It is worthy to note that 29 suspects were arrested for rape and defilement. 21 suspects were arrested for domestic violence and two suspects for child abuse. All the suspects were charged to court.

“On COVID-19 enforcement, the command successfully arrested 769 violators. “Let me use this opportunity to sound a big warning to traffic robbers and one chance robbery syndicates in Lagos State that their days are numbered. We are all out for them. I have set up a special operation to be coordinated by Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). “They will be supported by SARS operatives and Taskforce. The command will continue to dominate the public space and sustain the gains recorded in the fight against crime and social disorder. Lagosians are assured of their security at all times,” he said.

President’s aide cautions Oyedepo on CAMA

A personal Assistant to the President on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, on Monday replied the Presiding Bishop of the Living Faith Church Worldwide (a.k.a Winners Chapel), David Oyedepo, for criticizing the Company and Allied Matters Acts (CAMA).

The Federal Government seeks to regulate financial activities of local churches through CAMA.

The cleric was reported to have rejected the terms of the CAMA, which proposes to appoint Trustees on the management of churches, saying it would be a direct assault on God by the nation.

Oyedepo spoke during the Sunday service in his sprawling church auditorium, Ota, Ogun State.

He was quoted as saying: “The church is God’s heritage on earth. Molest the wife of somebody and you will see the anger of that person. The church is the bride of Christ. You know how a strong man is when you tamper with his wife. The church is the body of Christ. We are under obligation to give warnings to wicked rulers so we could be free from their blood.

“The church works on the pattern delivered by God not the pattern of man. Government has no power to appoint people over churches. This is a secular nation. The church is the greatest asset of God in this country. Please be warned. Judgment is coming.

“The Lord says I have been still but now I will arise. Anybody that is in this deal is taking poison. This will never work. I am waiting for a day when anybody will appoint a trustee over this church…”

Brothers jailed 22 years for raping four minors

Two siblings have been sentenced to 22 years imprisonment for raping four minors in Minna, the Niger State capital.

In sentencing Hassan Bilyaminu and Abdullahi Biliyaminu, who are also clerics at an Islamic school, Chief Magistrate Hauwa Baba Yusuf wondered “what people like the convicts derived from assaulting and defiling little girls”.

The four victims were pupils of the convicts at an Islamic school.

The oldest of the victims is 11, while the youngest is six, the court was told.

The suspect pleaded guilty, asking the Magistrate to tamper justice with mercy.

Justice Abiola Soladoye of an  Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court yesterday sentenced a surveyor, John Otema, to 53-years imprisonment for raping a 19-year-old student of University of Lagos.

Justice  Soladoye found the convict guilty of a two-count charge of rape and assault, but absolved him of guilt in the rape charge of another student.

The charges were brought against the convict by the Lagos State government.

The court sentenced Otema to 50 years in prison for rape and three years for assault on one of his victims. Both sentence run concurrently.

Otema was said to have physically assaulted one of the victims by hitting her several times on the face as well as choking and biting her back.

“Women and girls like every other member of the society should be respected and not be turned into prey by sex maniacs,” Justice  Soladoye said.

Oyo shifts common entrance, placement exams dates

Oyo State Government, yesterday, announced a shift in the date for common entrance examination into its Schools of Science from August 19 to September 1, 2020.

Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Olasunkanmi Olaleye, said in a statement that the shift was due to a clash of the examination date with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

He said the students were expected to write Economics and Agricultural Science in the WASSCE timetable at the initial date slated for the common entrance examination.

Olaleye said the date for the screening test for placement of pupils in terminal classes in public and private primary schools into Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS1) in Oyo State had also been shifted.

He said the new date would be from August 20 to 22 due to another clash of date of the exercise with another WASSCE subject  and advised guardians to note the changes

No ELECTION IN SOUTH WEST NIGERIA 2023, Doom lies ahead Yoruba Nation Warns

No ELECTION IN SOUTH WEST NIGERIA 2023
*Doom lies ahead Yoruba Nation Warns*

Fasoranti, Adebanjo, Akintoye, Adams, Awolowo-Dosunmu, Mimiko, Adegoke, Others to Nigerian Government: No Restructuring, No 2023 General Elections

...suspect foul play on Air force Pilot, Tolulope Arotile's Death, demand Independent Probe

...say nothing must happen to Major-General Adeniyi in Military Custody

...commend South West Governors on Amotekun

Just like how every cognisant yoruba parent would react when their children are derailing from omoluabi ethos, topmost Yoruba elders and opinion shapers on Friday raised concerns over the socio-economic and political problems bedevilling the nation of Nigeria with a stinker to the Nigerian government: No Restructuring, No 2023 Election.

Arising from a very important meeting on the platform of the Yoruba Summit Group (YSG) in Lagos, Afenifere Leader, Pa. Rueben Fasoranti, his Deputy, Pa. Ayo Adebanjo, Leader of Yoruba World Congress (YWC), Professor Banji Akintoye, Chairman of renowned Yoruba Intelligential group, Voice of Reason (VOR), Dr. Olufemi Adegoke, daughter of late yoruba political sage, Dr. Tokunbo Awolowo-Dosunmu and Aare Onakakanfo of Yoruba Land, Iba Gani Adams unanimously declared via a statement that unless the social, political and economic structures of Nigeria are restructured in line with the Independence Constitution of 1960, the unity, peace and development of Nigeria will continue to be a dream dreamt that would never be achieved.

Others at the meeting were former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe, Afenifere Chieftains, Mr. Yinka Odumakin and Dr. Amos Akingba, former presidential spokesman, Mr. Akin Osuntokun, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police, Chief Tunji Alapini, former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, amongst others accused the Buhari led administration of frustrating the restructuring of Nigeria to consistently favour the north, notwithstanding the realistic fact that Southern Nigeria contributes 90% of the country’s revenue to the federation account.

The communiqué of the meeting, released to newsmen on Friday by the Director of Media and Publicity of the Yoruba Summit Group, Mr. Mogaji Adejumo, said “the preponderance of permutations for 2023 presidency, zoning, selecting, rather than addressing the nature of the Nigerian union, the dilapidated structure of the farcical "Federation", never known to Federalism, this unitary unworkable morass, we the Yorùbá observe will only lead to the kind of chaos never before seen and experienced in history.

“We the Yorùbá Nation therefore reject the holding of a future general election before Restructuring Nigeria fiscally and structurally. We state that the ship of state is veering off precariously into a precipice, and that Nigeria is at the very edge of a political subsidence.

“We are persuaded that nothing short of Restructuring can save this country. Any attempt to go ahead with elections in 2023 without addressing the issue of Restructuring would spell doom for Nigeria.

“Notwithstanding the interests of some elements in our midst, it would be presumptuous to assume that the masses of the educated Yoruba Nation will dive headlong into being part of the 2023 elections, when all elements of its execution - the military, paramilitary, INEC, the judiciary have been rigged and appropriated by a single very tiny minority ethnic group in a small corner of the country.

“The emerging resolve of the Yoruba not to be part of vassal state that Nigeria has become, is better managed with due accommodation before any further degeneration and obvious consequences. Our quest shall henceforth be to mobilise the masses of our peoples not to participate in any further elections until the goal of Restructuring or Self-determination is attained.

“The Yoruba Nation is therefore making the clarion call for confidence building steps to taken by the Buhari regime immediately, especially as the historic 60th Anniversary of Nigeria as an independent Nation beckons on October 1, 2020.

“Steps towards an urgent meeting of all Nationalities has to be taken now to determine the nature of our relationships. Unless this peaceful step is heeded to, so that Nigeria heads in the right direction thereafter, the clear alternative would be for self-determination quests to proceed rapidly without any further restraint.

“It has become patently untenable for the Yoruba Nation to tolerate further incompetence and impunity as has been foisted on all other Ethnic Nationalities across Nigeria,” the statement reads.

Commending South West Governors on the successful take off of the region's  informal security outfit, Operation Amotekun, the leaders said “with the granting of licenses for prospecting for gold in Yorubaland, we are aware of the dangers banditry, kidnapping and sundry criminalities this portends. Yorùbá Nation has noted with great interest, the creation of the Àmọ̀tẹ́kùn Security Network in the South-West states.

“We extend our warmest felicitations to the Governors who have started in earnest to fulfil the task of filling the huge gulf of various, serious insecurity issues plaguing our region. We hereby call on states yet to put this structure in place to do so in earnest. The Yorùbá do not forget.”

On the death of first female Air force combat  pilot in Nigeria, late Tolulope Arotile, who reportedly died at the Air Force Base, Kaduna , recently, the leaders called on the Nigerian government to constitute an independent panel of inquiry to look into the death of the 25 years old Okun born combatant, alleging that there is more to the death of the late Arotile than being reported.

The leaders also warned the Buhari- led administration of dire consequences if the detained former Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Olusegun Adeniyi die in military custody.

“We are also aware of the initial casual manner Tolulope Arotile's killing was treated by the authorities of the Nigerian Air Force which is capable of raising suspicion in the minds people. It is better to quickly douse tension and apprehension by coming out in the open.

“The authorities did not imagine that so much noise would be made, and so many questions would be asked. Her death was treated with levity, just as many other cases where the lives of Nigerians do not seem to matter anymore.

“The Yorùbá nation therefore demands a full-scale independent investigation by an inclusive panel of experts. The Yorùbá nation notes with sadness that on the very day our daughter Tolulope goes home, a senior Military officer: Major General Olusegun Adeniyi is being court-martialled for daring to voice out the lack of tools and equipment needed to prosecute a Boko Haram war that has become far too prolonged and far too controversial in light of the numerous calls to the Federal Government to change the Military ’Service  Chiefs  who have failed to provide the highest quality of security, leadership and delivery of forthrightness in their duties.

“We the Yorùbá condemn in strong terms, the cherry-picking of our fighters, soldiers, officers as either cannon fodders easy-targets, operational fall-guys and being used for experimental disciplinary measures, whilst the real culprits, go free!

“Critical to this development are also pieces of news items of friendly fire from soldiers of a particular part of the country using their guns on our fighters who dare carry the battle deep into the Boko Haram held territories” the statement concluded.

Others who signed the communiqué are HRH Kabiesi Ọba Oladipo Olaitan, Basorun Seinde Arogbofa, Dr. Ebun Sonaiya, Mrs Tokunbo Ekukanim, Dr. Akin Fapohunda, Mr Femi Adefemiwa, Otunba Aderemi Abdul, Chief Olufemi Kufo, Mr George Akinola, Mr Ademola Folarin, Chief Supo Shonibare, Basọ́run Segun Sanni and Mr. Willy Thomas.

Prosecute Ardo Bulama for treason now, National Christian Elders Forum petitions IGP

THE National Christian Elders Forum,  NCEF, has petitioned the Inspector General of Police over an alleged call by one Ardo Bulama who swore that all the indigenous ethnic nationalities in southern Kaduna and all the Christians in Nigeria shall be killed.

The NCEF petition titled: “NCEF Responds with Petition to Inspector General of Police; Ardo Bulama must be arrested and prosecuted for treasonable felony,” and signed by NCEF chairman, Elder Solomon Asemota, SAN, on behalf of eminent Nigerian Christian elders including Gen. Joshua Dogonyaro (rtd) (Vice-Chairman), Prof. Joseph Otubu, Dr. (Mrs) Kate Okpareke, Dr. Ayo Abifarin, Gen. Zamani Lekwot (rtd), Elder Moses Ihonde, Elder Nat Okoro, Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), Elder Matthew Owojaiye, Hon. Justice Kalajine Anigbogu (rtd), Elder Shyngle Wigwe, DIG P. L. Dabup, Sir John W. Bagu, Dr. Saleh Hussaini, Elder Michael Orobator, Hon. Gani, Mrs. Osaretin Demuren, Prof. Yussuf Turaki, Lady Mariam Yunusa,  Prof. (Mrs) Deborah Enilo Ajakaiye, HRM Oba Dokun Thompson, Dr. Taiwo Idemudia (Diaspora) and Pastor Bosun Emmanuel (Secretary) alleging that Ardo Bulama claimed that Fulani own all the land and none of the other ethnic nationalities will farm because “we will sit in your farms and anyone who comes out we will kill him.”

In the nine-page petition, NCEF made the following recommendations to the Inspector General of Police: “That Ardo Bulama should be arrested, investigated, and prosecuted for incitement to violence, hate speech and treasonable felony in that he is canvassing genocide against Christians and other Nigerians in Kaduna State that could consume Nigeria;

“That until the Constitution is amended through legal processes, the Nigeria Police will protect the lives and properties of all Nigerians.

“The Inspector General is encouraged to reduce personnel for institutionalized powers for better policing of Nigeria such as declining interference in the day to day Police activities in the States as to whom to protect and not to protect. After all Nigeria is a Federation of 36 States and one Federal Capital Territory that are semi-autonomous,” NCEF enjoined.

Below is the transcript of the message of Ardo Bulama, translated from Hausa into English: “Both the infidels in Kasuwan Magani, infidels in Laduga, infidels in Kachiya, infidels in Gwanin Gora, infidels in Kafanchan and all the infidels in southern Nigeria. We Fulani have shame but we have removed it and kept it aside. You infidels are not trustworthy. Our parents have been telling us but we now know the truth. Our parents were telling us, we held you in truthfulness and confidence and peaceful co-existence, you said it’s not like that.

Not gun, knife, arrow, and all American ammunitions it doesn’t penetrate our body we here its common stick we will use and it works on everybody without using American ammunition. Lagos Couple Gives Birth To Quadruplets After 5 Years Of Marriage

The joy of Mr. Nonso Amyaegbu knew no bound when his wife, 41-year-old Mrs. Maureen, was delivered of quadruplet, five years after their marriage.

According to Amyaegbu, the babies, one boy and three girls, were given birth to on August 6, 2020 by a team of 20 medical personnel in a surgery that lasted about seven hours.

“My wife was taken into the theatre at about 7am and was there up-to about 1.30pm.

“While she was in the theatre, I was praying to God because I was very apprehensive.

“At a point, the fact that she was still in theatre overshadowed the joy of having the babies,” he said.

He said he had no idea the babies were four until after delivery, noting that all the scan results prior to delivery had shown triplet.

Commenting on her delivery, Dr. Job Adebayo of the Obstetrician and Gynaecologist Department, FMC, Ebute Meta, explained that 41-year-old Maureen was monitored through-out her pregnancy up to the delivery stage.

He made known that a caesarean section was planned for her delivery because of the number of babies involved.

“After I brought out the third baby, I was about to remove the placenta when I felt a kick on my hand and behold, it was the fourth baby in the amniotic sac.

“In fact, the last child was the heaviest of them all.

“The babies weighed 1.5kg, 1.56kg, 1.6kg, but the fourth baby weighed 1.9kg,” he said, noting that they were all doing fine.

Narrating how life was before God answered their prayer, 43-year-old Amyaegbu said, “I and my wife have had to wait for over five years.

“It was really not easy as we were both very worried, my wife was particularly worried but we kept encouraging each other.
“What I did was that I ensured no one pressurised my wife or blamed her for not being able to bear a child.

“Two years into the marriage, we started asking questions, we sought medical advice, we got checked and we were both certified okay.

“So, my wife was placed on some multi-vitamin to boost her chances, she kept taking them until God answered our prayers in a miraculous way.

“When God eventually answered our prayers, we hoped for only child but we were surprised when the scan result revealed triplets.”

The father of the quadruplet, who is a quantity surveyor and mortgage consultant, explained that results of the various scan carried out on his wife revealed triplet, even up to two days to her delivery.

“I was more surprised when the matron came out to congratulate me that my wife had been delivered of four babies.

“It was indeed a miracle because we have been praying to God for one or two, but he chose to shock us with four at a time,” he said.

He, however, said the babies were still in the nursery as his wife recuperates at the hospital.

While he encouraged expectant couples to be patient, prayerful and never neglect medical help, he also called on the state government and Nigerians with the where-withal to support him in catering for his quadruplet.

The new mother, Maureen, a public servant, thanked her husband for supporting and encouraging her during the waiting period.
