Wife divorces husband for allegedly stealing her pant for rituals in Ibadan

A Nigerian woman identified as Sadia Abass has divorced her husband over alleged claims that he stole her pant for rituals. Sadia who is a trader had petitioned the Court to dissolve her marriage to her husband, Azeez, on Wednesday at the Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan.

Speaking to the president of the court, Sadia said that she feared that her life might be in perpetual danger if she continued to live under the same roof with a man planning to use her for something diabolic.

Sadia added that her husband’s attitude had made the marriage miserable and unattractive to her.

In her words “When the ill-treatment reached its peak, I discovered that my underwear suddenly got missing. I checked everywhere but did not see it. He also denied ever seeing it. Three days later, the missing underwear resurfaced where I had checked over and over and I made him realise his evil intention toward me.”

Sharing his own side of the story, Azeez said “Only God knows what would have happened or might still happen to me because I have made it clear to him that I will not continue with the relationship. Every now and then, she nags and packs in and out of the house”

The judge however concluded that there was no more love between the duo and pronounced the marriage dissolved in the interest of peace and harmony. Adding that mother should be the custodian of their child and the defendant must pay N5,000 monthly for the child’s feeding and also to be responsible for his education and basic welfare.

DPO Tortures Two Men To Death For Stealing Chickens

Nigerians have urged the Inspector- General of Police (IG), Mohammed Adamu, to investigate a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bauchi State for torturing two men to death for stealing seven chickens. This was one of the security discussions that inflamed Twitter at the weekend.

It was, however, learnt that the incident had led to the Bauchi State Commissioner of Police setting up a panel of inquiry, which till date had not made its findings known to members of the public.

Bulama Bukarti@bulamabukarti, who tagged the Police Complaint Unit, said that he first heard about the incident on BBC Hausa. Bukarti said: “A DPO in Bauchi tortured two men to death and left the third with five fractures for allegedly stealing seven chickens.

Here’s what happened, according to the surviving victim; the victims were arrested for allegedly stealing seven chickens. The man they sold them to was summoned and ordered to pay N2,000 each for 13 chickens, instead of seven and he did.

The suspects were ordered by the DPO to pay N4,000 and their parents  paid a total of N12,000. The DPO told the parents to go, that he’d release the suspects later. He then ordered his officers to tie the suspects up.

He told the suspects to be chanting ‘stealing has ended’ in Hausa and started beating them with a big stuff in their legs, heads, chests, all over their bodies. The first suspect died instantly. The second died for head and neck injuries in a hospital.

The third is currently home nursing five fractures including two on the knees of each leg. “The second suspect’s mother related to BBC Hausa how her son died tragically in the hospital.

The Bauchi State Police Command said it has set up a committee to investigate the matter but the DPO was not suspended, much less arrested. When pressed by BBC, the police spokesman said ‘You can’t arrest a senior policeman!’

The alleged torturer is still the DPO of the division.
