6 out of 10 kidnapped FRSC officers still in custody of bandits in Nasarawa

Commissioner of Police in Nasarawa State, Bola Longe,  yesterday, said  that six out of 10 officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) that were attacked and kidnapped by bandits were still held by their abductors.

Longe said the police had succesfully rescued  four of the FRSC personnel that were abducted.

The CP who briefed newsmen after  state security council meeting in Lafia, revealed that men of the command, with effort of combined security operatives have launched an  onslaughts action against the bandits.

On Monday, two officers of the FRSC were confirmed killed, while six were injured and ten others kidnapped, after gunmen attacked two buses conveying 26 officials through Nasarawa State.

Sources revealed that the convoy of the FRSC officers was headed to the Corps’ Academy in Udi, Enugu State when bandits attacked them along Udege junction situated between Adoka community, along Mararaban-Udege in Nasarawa State.

However, the Police CP yesterday said “with the combined efforts of the security agencies, particularly the police and military, we carried out an onslaught against the bandits.

“We modified the aggression and we checkmated their wicked  antics and put them in panicking situation and they ran into different direction.

“On the basis of that, some of the victims of the kidnappers were able to escape and in the process, the security agencies were able to rescue four  of them out of the 10 that were kidnapped . Only 6 are with the kidnappers, but we are really monitoring the situation and our personnel are advancing against the bandits and by the grace of God, we will rescue them alive in the hands of the kidnappers” the revealed.

Mr Alaga Solomon Ari, a teacher with Sudan United Mission (S.U.M) Primary School, Agwatashi, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, has been arrested for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old pupil of the school.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Ramhan Nansel confirmed the incident.

A source who pleaded anonymity said that the teacher in question is fond of defiling underaged girls in the community.

“The suspect is happily married and has children but he’s fond of defiling people’s children. This is the fourth time he did such a thing since he returned from Lagos State,” he revealed.

It was gathered that Mr Ari allegedly sent the victim to get a broom from a classroom after the school closing hour, when he followed her and unlawfully defiled her.

It was further gathered that the act was reported to the LGA Chairman Muhammad Iymoyga Oyigye who immediately informed the police and ordered for his arrest.

According to the PPRO, “On 16/08/20, at about 0745hrs, a case of rape was reported, that one Alaga Solomon had on 14-8-2020 lured and unlawfully had canal knowledge of a 15 year old girl at Agwatashi, Obi LGA of Nasarawa State”.

“Upon receipt of the information, the Police went after the suspect and arrested him”

“The Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe has directed that the case be transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for thorough investigation,” he said.

Mr Alaga Solomon Ari, is currently in custody while investigation is being carried out to unravel the incident.

What We Are Doing To Rescue Over 30 Kidnapped Persons in the state – Nasarawa Govt

Nasarawa State Governor, Mr Abdullahi Sule says it is teaming with the security agencies to secure the release of over 30 people kidnapped in the state.
The Governor said the persons were recently kidnapped by armed men and taken to the bush around the Udege Development Area in Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.
The state governor, Abdullahi Sule, disclosed the effort of the government to rescue them while delivering his opening speech at an emergency Executive Council Meeting held on Friday at the Government House in Lafia, the state capital.
He also used the medium of the meeting to give an update on the rising security challenges, especially in the western senatorial zone of Nasarawa state.
Governor Abdullahi Sule criticized the recent incident in which occupants of three vehicles, numbering more than 30 were kidnapped by gunmen.
The Governor said, “We are working along with the Federal agencies, the police, Department of State Services (DSS), and the military to ensure that we are able to rescue the people who have been kidnapped  and taken to the bush in that area.”
“The government is on top of the situation and we are going to do the best we can to ensure that they are released,” Governor Abdullahi Sule vowed.
He added that the state government was taking measures to reduce the inherent risk in the area, especially around the major road leading to Benue State.
