Buhari has killed your ambition, you can’t be President – Bamgbose tells Tinubu

Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and his party have been asked to perish any hope of winning the 2023 presidency because they have failed Nigerians

Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose, National Coordinator, Concerned Advocates for Good Governance, CAGG, believes that the actions of the current administration, most recently the hike in the prices of fuel and electricity, has clearly suffocated Tinubu’s ambition.

Bamgbose described the APC as a party with no sympathy whatsoever for the poor masses.

Bamgbose lamented that it was quite unfortunate that the All Progressives Congress, APC, which promised better life, good governance, positive change to Nigerians, has successfully made reverse the case.

In a chat with DAILY POST over the increase in the pump price of fuel and electricity tarrif, the senior lawyer said the “Buhari administration is fast becoming oppressive and burdensome.

“One wonders the justification of these hikes when we are still grappling with poverty, hardship and unemployment. Most recently, National Bureau of Statistics came out to inform Nigerians that about 21 million Nigerians are unemployed.

“We still remain the poverty capital of the world. We should also remember here that we are yet recover from the COVID-19 devastating effects on the economy. On top of all these and many more, this government went ahead to increase the pump price, to say the least, this is inhuman and and a clear case of being insensitive to the plight of Nigerians. We urge the administration to reverse the hike within 14 days.

“There is no justification whatsoever for the hike at this critical period. The untimely hike is odious and obnoxious, reversal is the only thing that will make Nigerians happy.

“However if they fail to reverse the hike in pump price, they should forget about 2023. If they believe, they will use the power of incumbency to win elections come 2023, they will meet their waterloo.

“Bola Tinubu has refused to make any categorical statement, meaning he will toe the same line of oppressing the masses if he wins.

“I’ll urge him to forget about becoming the President of Nigeria come 2023. I foresee a real change come 2023, our mumu don do. Enough is enough.”

Why Tinubu Will Perform Better Than Buhari As The President Of Nigeria

A former aide to ex-President Shehu Shagari, Tanko Yakassai, has insisted that Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, was better than President Muhammadu Buhari.

Yakassai, who was a liaison officer to former President Shehu Shagari, said if, given the opportunity, Tinubu would perform better than Buhari.

He explained that the efforts of the APC National Leader in transforming Lagos State when he was governor were indications that he is more competent than Buhari.
Speaking in an interview in Kano, Yakassai said Tinubu was better at planning than Buhari and stressed that planning is what makes a better leader.

According to the elder statesman: “If you are talking of making a better president, to be honest with you, I think if Tinubu can get the APC ticket and is elected, he will perform better than Buhari. I do not doubt in my mind.

Go to Lagos and see what Tinubu did, when I went for an occasion, I took my time on the day of my arrival to go and have a look at Lekki.

In my opinion, Tinubu can make a better president than Buhari.

“What makes a better political leader in government is the plan. If you have a plan, you can do it; without a plan, you cannot perform,” Daily Times reports.

Open letter to Buhari: Between fact and fiction on Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu

Open letter to Buhari: Between fact and fiction

IN continuation of its campaign strategy hinged on blackmail and propagation of falsehood, the Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its 11th-hour candidate, sponsored an open letter asking President Muhammadu Buhari not to meet with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the party’s candidate in the September 19 Governorship election in the State.

The letter was purportedly written by ‘Concerned Edo State APC stakeholders’.

Using its well-known letter-writing tactic of putting its words into the mouths of non-existent characters portrayed either as ‘concerned citizens’ or ‘stakeholders’ as the current case manifests, the PDP argued that by meeting with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu,

the President will “rubbish” his stance against anti-corruption because of the said N700 million case instituted in court by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in which the candidate was named as a party.

According to the PDP, the case brought before Justice J.M. Umar of the High Court sitting in Benin City, with the suit No. FHC/BE21C/2016, against Pastor Ize-Iyamu and “four other accused persons” represents enough reason for the President to turn his back on a candidate who emerged as the state’s APC flagbearer at the successful primary election he ratified.

The meddlers also construe that on account of the above non-issues, the president should divorce himself from the candidate whom he asked all organs of the APC, at the state and national level, to offer all the required support, within the ambit of the law, to win the election.

The first pointer to the ridiculous nature of the argument, and indeed the entire affair, is that the PDP, having undergone the stress to commission the writing of the laboriously lengthy essay, carefully avoided outlining details when it came to naming all those accused in the said case.

It instead settled for the concealing “four other accused persons” line that reveals its contradiction each time it attempts to shamefully weaponise the case against Pastor Ize-Iyamu whose soaring popularity and wide acceptance in the state is responsible for their jitters and sudden interest in letter-writing and literature.

The reason for this concealment, which is already uncovered by people of Edo State who have since ignored their childish tantrums, is because the four accused persons include Mr. Tony Aziegbemi, the current Chairman of the Edo State Chapter of the PDP, and the man he succeeded in office who, interestingly, also serves as the Chairman of the PDP Campaign Council for the Edo Governorship election, Mr. Dan Orbih.

The election of Mr. Tony Aziegbemi as the Chairman of the Edo PDP and the appointment of Mr. Dan Orbih as the Chairman of the Campaign Council of the PDP came after the filing of the N700 million suit by the EFCC.

When taken to task on this by curious journalists and other interested persons, the PDP defended both appointments on the grounds that allegations and a court case are not evidence of wrongdoing because of the constitutional presumption of innocence which holds that unless convicted by a competent court, accused persons remain innocent of all charges.

Besides, the PDP argued that the said sum, in any case, was sourced from private bodies, not the coffers of government, and it was distributed to its rank and file in the state who have documents to show receipt and the expending of the sum.

Summarily, the PDP, in its own argument and robust defence of its leaders, had already vindicated Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu. This is further corroborated by the fact that although the case was for an alleged improper practice that took place in 2015 over the campaign funds of President Goodluck Jonathan when he was seeking re-election, the PDP, in 2016, unilaterally elected and backed Pastor Ize-Iyamu as its governorship candidate.

Even for a toddler, it is clear that the turn-around today, and the open letter to the President is a political reactionary attempt to cause a setback to the progressive strides of Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu and the APC to victory on the September 19 election, having won the goodwill of the people of Edo State.

Although these faceless persons claim to write on behalf of Edo people at home and in the diaspora, the mendacious claim is exposed by the deluge of endorsements received daily by Pastor Ize-Iyamu from the people of Edo State across the world,

including prominent members of Mr. Godwin Obaseki’s government and family, who are resigning in their numbers, something never seen before, because they are convinced of Pastor Ize-Iyamu’s integrity, competence and documented manifesto to move Edo State forward.

We are confident that Mr. President is well-aware of the vicious, unprincipled and mindless attacks on innocent people and their reputation by the PDP, having been a victim of their flexible principles and morality himself.

Therefore, he needs very little convincing on why their jejune demand, alongside the shameful insistence on dragging others into their campaign of calumny to hide the failure of their candidate, stems from their approaching defeat on September 19.

This clarification is made to unsuspecting members of the public who may be tricked into believing the lies of the PDP. It is a party of power-mongers pitted against themselves by their unrestrained ambitions, and still operating on the “do-or-die” politics it introduced and poisoned our polity with.

COVID-19: SGF submits new recommendations to Buhari, says states not enforcing regulations

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman, Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, has identified non enforcement of regulations by States as one of the key challenges facing the efforts being made to stop the spread of the novel coronavirus disease in the country.

Mustapha disclosed on Wednesday while fielding questions from State House reporters after submitting new recommendations for the second extension of the second phase of gradual and eased lockdown to President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He was accompanied to the State House by members of the PTF, including the Minister of Health; Dr Osagie Ehanire; the National Coordinator of the PTF, Dr Sani Aliyu; and the Director-General of the Nigerian Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu.

‘Enforcement, the headache’

The SGF, while reacting to the question that sought to know whether the government would consider imposing sanctions on violators of laws to stop the spread of the disease, said: “It’s enforcement that has largely been lacking and my appeal is that the sub-nationals should ensure enforcement.

“As a matter of fact, when we listed some of our challenges, that was top on the list; lack of enforcement of even the regulations that have been put in place.

“As a result of signing the Quarantine Regulation, it’s a regulation, it’s a law.

“But you see, the issue of enforcement has been lacking and it’s not only in this area.

“And like I keep saying most times that COVID-19 has exposed the weaknesses of our systems, all systems, not only the Nigerian system, even the American system, its inadequacies, despite its 300 years of democracy, have been exposed by COVID-19.

“If not, how can a President be arguing with the mayor of a city as to who has authority over what happens?
“It means there’s a big gap in that system.

“I believe if we can just work on the enforcement aspect of it, which is the responsibility of the sub-nationals, we will go a long way.”

New recommendations

The SGF, who refused to speak on the content of the report submitted to President Buhari, however, hinted that the recommendations focused on movement; labour and industries; communities’ activities.

He promised to speak on the matter on Thursday after receiving the President’s “approvals and non-approvals on the recommendations”.

Mustapha said the discharge of nearly 10,000 COVID-19 patients on Tuesday was not an indication that the country could relax as the reduction in the number of new cases was due to festivities.

“If you noticed, as we celebrated those discharges, there’s also been a decrease in the testings.

“In the last couple of days, we tested just barely 2,000 across the nation, but we have a testing capacity of much more thousands than 2,000.

“Another reason; everybody is still in the Sallah mood, even the essential workers, remember when I talked of fatigue, this is part of it.

“We’ve been doing this thing for the last three to four months, it gets to a point when you want to lay back and say we are already overcoming this, but I know that in the next couple of days, the testing will be rampart because people would have come out of the Sallah celebrations and come back to work.

“The sub-nationals and local governments will begin to go into the communities to search because this is the point at which you have to go into the local communities and begin to search.

“If you don’t do that, so much is happening as a result of the community transmission that has been cascaded into the local communities that if you wait for it to present itself, it will present itself in a very explosive manner and we can get into a panic mode.

“We don’t want to have that.

“That is why we are encouraging the state governments to go into the local communities to ensure that they search for those infected with this virus, test them, if they are positive, isolate them and provide care for them,” he added.

The SGF said the increasing numbers of new cases in spite of the trillion of dollars that had been thrown against COVID-19 showed that the ravaging effect of the disease in terms of infections and fatalities had not been tackled.

He expressed satisfaction that the country had established 60 laboratories in 31 states and the FCT, hoping that the entire states would be covered by the end of the month

I won’t tolerate disrespect to National Assembly, Buhari warns Keyamo, other ministers

President Muhammadu Buhari says ministers and all heads of departments and agencies should at all times conduct themselves in ways that will not undermine the National Assembly as an institution, its leadership and members.

President Buhari said this on Thursday when he received in audience Senate President Ahmed Ibrahim Lawan and the Speaker of the House of Representatives Honorable Femi Gbajabiamila at the State House, Aso Villa, Abuja.

Senate approves N168.8bn for FIRS Buhari dares NASS, backs Keyamo on recruitment The President, in a statement issued on Thursday by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, re-emphasized his utmost respect for the National Assembly. He said that any disrespect to the institution by any member of the executive branch would not be accepted. In the course of their conversation, recent events at the National Assembly were highlighted.

The meeting, which lasted for almost an hour, was characterized by an engaging discussion on a range of key issues of national importance particularly the role of the legislature as a critical component in supporting their common goal and commitment towards improving the lives of the people of Nigeria. Buhari and the leaders of the National Assembly recognized and acknowledged that the executive and legislative arms of government are essential partners in the fulfilment of their mutually aligned goal of improving the lives of the Nigerian people, according to the statement. statement

The Minister of State for Labour, Productivity and Employment, Festus Keyamo, had on June 30, clashed with the federal lawmakers when he appeared before the joint committees of the National Assembly on Labour to brief them on the recruitment of 774,000 youths under the Special Public Works programme (SPW).

An argument over the composition of the selection of the committees of the scheme snowballed into war of words between the minister and the lawmakers. Thus, the federal lawmakers announced the suspension of the scheme.

Subsequently, President Buhari, on Tuesday, reportedly threw his weight behind the minister by giving him a go-ahead to continue with the exercise, despite the suspension by the lawmakers. THE GOV. OF CROSS RIVER STATE PROF. BEN AYADE, SEND ECONOMIC WARNING TO BUHARI

The Governor of Cross River State Prof. Ben Ayade, took to his twitter handle to advise President Buhari on the issue of lock down…

He Wrote;

As the nation grapples with the impact of coronavirus on the economy, the loss of jobs in the private sector and the negative spiral effect on small businesses and service providers, another 4wks closure of the airspace will worsen the economic situation of that category

We can do so by allowing the domestic airlines to start flying. As they fly, @NCDCgov should spell out certain conditions like ensuring aircrafts are properly disinfected, ensuring temperature tests are carried out before passengers get on board and that all passengers wear masks

I’m appealing to @MBuhari not to lock down the healthy but rather to lock down the sick and allow the healthy to work. So that the private sector can pick up again, so the suppliers can be back in business as well as laid off workers who are currently going hungry
